Default new dumb guy with dumb car and dumb plans

hi.

i had a '90 miata with a reasonably fresh 1.6 that ran and drove great.

so i pulled the engine and sold it. i sold the flywheel and clutch to concealer, and i currently have the 5-speed and rear end for sale too.

this was a couple years ago. since then, the car has sat on stands collecting garage dust, dryer lint and expensive parts, because we all know a project in the garage is worth 2 reliable cars on the street?

in those 2 years, i debated swapping in an n/a 13b, a turbo 1.8, and a bunch of other relatively reasonable or cost-effective engine options before settling on the 1uz. why make 260hp at the crank the easy way when you can spend more time and money to do it the dumb way?

i console myself by reflecting on the fact that i purchased a complete rear-sump motor from an SC400 for less than half what i sold my 1.6 for, and maybe some of the money i made from ditching accessories will offset the cost of my subframe and transmission adapter. money doesn't really matter since i spend ~10x the car budget i set aside annually on beer, so drinking is my career and working on cars is somewhere between having a hobby and outright burning piles of cash in my backyard.

i signed up after spending years lurking because i saw turbotim uses a t5, and it was mentioned in passing by a friend who makes a lot of 1uz adapter stuff that a c4 t5 transmission has provisions on the case for a ppf solution and adapting that trans to the motor wouldn't be hard to do. nobody else seems to care about doing anything of value (by my definition anyway) to miatas, so i figured why not?

i will likely continue to lurk and glean information the way i always have - internet hearsay - and when i finish my build in the next 5-10 years, i might be able to thank a couple of you who indirectly contributed to its completion. in the meantime, i wanted to give a (mostly) new group of people the opportunity to tell me what a bad idea this is and why i shouldn't do it.

There are many reasons why you shouldn't do this. That being said, I support your stupidity, and I welcome the opportunity to see you fail.
Are you in Indiana?

I thought you might be localish because you sold stuff to concealer, but I guess I'll have to watch you fail from afar.

I love this place, and I love you people.

I also love watching people fail, so props to OP.

Unpractical and generally unreliable engine swaps are my favourite!

Welcome Chris!

all of the pics of this car i have access to date back to before i put it away, and aren't very interesting. the only thing i did with it when it ran was daily it. excepting the deleted power steering, a/c, cruise and airbag stuff it served its purpose well enough.

i wish i had the screen caps of the craigslist ad from before i bought it, but the host went down and i hadn't saved them anywhere else.

i'd have to dig it out to get pics in its current state, but it's a miata with no front body panels sitting next to an engine on a stand.

next thing i plan on buying is the v8r mountless subframe, which should hopefully afford me enough oil pan clearance to avoid modifying too much. but im not counting on it, because why should anything in life be easy? keeping my goals short-term because nobody likes a pipe dream thread.

Welcome to the forum. I appreciate your candor. Fwiw, I like the rhythm of a 90 degree v8 over a v6 or any 4 cyl., so i understand.

hi so:

i bought the reproduction tuckin flares i found from a seller.

my car still sits on stands in the garage.

i found the right mix of meds, drugs, coffee and beer to be productive again.

pretty sure im going to take that 1uz and keep it for spares on my other Lexus powered piece of turd.

money going into doing dumb things on the 1jz daily.

got some gray dickhairs now.

2018 goal is to not leave the car behind when i sell the house.

will trade miata parts for weed.

life is bitch.

if you smoked less weed I bet you'd have the Miata done many years ago.

if i only had a brain

honestly: the chemicals outside of my body are the least of my worries these days. it was the cressida and the house - each titans of the moneypit way of life in their own right - that killed my progress on everything else.

ps emilio's 15x12 6UL **** led me back to this place. just to see what a 12" wide wheel looked like on a miata that wasn't a joke.
