Howdy all, names Austin. I live in Fort Myers FL. I bought a 1994 red R-package miata last month and so far I'm absolutely loving it!! I guess most of you all will know that feeling. The previous owner owned a racing school out in Texas so when I bought it, it had some fairly nice upgrades. I plan on taking it to auto-x and I am already signed up with the SCCA so I can go to track days! It wont be a Spec that's for sure, I plan on supercharging within the next few months. The car is way too "slammed" for my tastes, but damn is that a clean car otherwise. Welcome to the site, don't supercharge it though. Read around and decide that you want to go turbo.

Also, crawling under your car without jackstands is dangerous mmmkay.

 

Haha yeah the suspension is raised about 1.5'' from that picture I couldnt get over the speed bumps to my house, I hated how low it was. I have also read up a lot on the turbo vs supercharger and I have decided to go with the s/c I love that whine

Welcome. I don't really get it though. Why do all these people come to miataturbo.net to talk about superchargers. I also don't understand why anyone would want a stupidcharger on anything that doesn't already have gobs of tq like say something 350 equipped.

Don't get me wrong there are some cool guys on here with superchargers but you know they really wish they had some turbo.

 

Well I don't know about these other people you talk about, however it appears as though you talk about other things such as suspension. I didn't come to talk about superchargers I gave you some info about what "I wanted" to do and I came to find other miata lovers who have advice on other parts of the car

 

Also, in addition the supercharger is much better on a track because the power band is a lot more controlled as I said I race in SCCA, I'd like to have my induction providing boost right as I exit the corner not after I exit. Turbo lag is the death of it. I have seen many times around auto-x people who turbo the hell out of their cars and the boost comes on at the wrong time, they dont know how to control it ..... and the next thing you know they are doing doughnuts

lol I definitely agree with you there! I didnt intend to make it sound like that is completely the turbo's fault, however I dont want to be associated with that kind of bad driving. I also just like the simplicity of the supercharger it's bolt on bolt off that's about it.

A 2560 on a tubular mani or an efr will have fast enough spool to keep up with a supercharger.

 

Krissetsfire you are probably correct with the 2560 but I have had a couple people tell me that turbos can become unpredictable the faster the turbo spools. Also, if all its going to do is keep up with the supercharger why not go with the s/c kit seeing as its easier to install and wont do any permanent changes to the car, in case somebody wants to remove it if i sell it. Like I have said guys I have done research I'm not an expert so, maybe try being more friendly? Instead of " Lol. Leave, suck less, then return. K? Thanks. " A friendly " hey, you might have been misinformed on some things here's my expirence..."

 

 

why not have more torque out of corners and more power up top? If you're going to FI the right way they'll both require good fuel and timing management, bigger injectors, better flowing exhaust etc... It's NOT easier to install. If i want to install a half assed turbo kit I could also do so in a few hours.

Regardless of which you choose both are Forced Induction and both need Timing and Fuel Adjustments. If you want to choose a supercharger enjoy it. Don't have some delusional notion that it's any "easier" than turbo. Typically the kits are more expensive and less robust. Not to mention there is a HUGE community and WEALTH of information at your fingertips right here. Why do you think there is a miataturbo and not a miatasupercharger website?

The only valid thing you've said is the whine out of the supercharger. Sounds pretty cool and i like it my self however i also got a gf which whines plenty so i went turbo.

Just in case you aren't totally trolling, I'm going to leave this here. Blue is a S/C. Red is a member's turbo car.



As you can see, a supercharger is clearly superior on the track, it makes more torque in the all-important 2250-2700rpm range.
