Welcome ben. Smart move to apologize in advance for not having pics
I guess you read some previous responses
You'll find a lot of help in your quest with the Miata here. BTW, that's my wife's Sentra, only with no mods
Thanks for the welcome, and I finally have pics. The weathers been getting nicer, so Ive started working on getting the miata ready to be inspected and tagged. It needs brake pads, I did the fronts today. It still needs a battery, a heater hose, an upper radiator hose, and a lot of rust fixed before I can start building it to where I want it. Im a mechanic, I work on these things on my lunch hour and after work every once in a while.
Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics, but here they are:

Heres all the rust spots on the outside, theres some more underneath as well:

I have a new rear panel, I just need to sand and paint it

I need to get a new radiator duct/ shroud thing, for now I ripped out the half that was still there in this pic

Wont need that anymore

I need to stitch this up before it gets any worse

My bone stock B6 with 287k miles

I took out the soft top because the vinyl was mostly gone, and I started removing the rest of the interior while I was in there.

And heres both my cars

By the look of your Sentra,
you're up to the task. I would indeed sell the hardtop. It'll provide welcome funds for your project.
Keep us in the loop. BTW, for that price, that's a really nice car!

I know its in rough shape, but I can fix most of the rust and I probably would have wanted a 1.8 swap even if the 1.6 had low miles. And the 1.6 still runs great with almost 300k.
I really dont need a nice looking car, I only bought this because I wanted a faster car. I wish I could have found an affordable 94 or 95, but it seems like thats pretty hard to do.
