Default Intro from CT, Beginning of winter turbo project

Figured its time to make my intro thread since ill now be beginning my winter project.

I have a 94 Black and Tan that I got in Feb of 2013. Its up to 124k miles and came with the R front lip, Koni yellows and stock hollow spoke rims. So far, I've just been doing maintenance and small changes like removing all the Nardi wood (Didn't care for it) and going back to more comfortable cloth seats. Put on new Konig rims and 205 tires to make AutoX a little easier.

I try to do as many AutoX as I can in the summer both in CT and in Maine where I visit my brother who has a ~200Hp Turbo Saturn Wagon powered by an MS. Really just like driving the car and know I'm not going to be very competitive.

Here is how she sits now:

This was from an AutoX in Maine last year.

Just finished doing the timing belt which was way easier than I originally expected and am in the midst of starting the turbo project. So far have a DIYPNP2 and AEM wideband which will be going in once I do emissions.

Plan to get the tuning basics down (have some from helping my brother but that was with MegaTune), then move up to RX7 injectors I got from the forum classified. Once those are running well it will be onto a FM2 no electronics kit around tax return time. Goal is to be around 200HP by time I get a FM Happy Meal to handle the power.

So far learnt almost everything from just reading and searching but sure more questions will come up once the MS goes in.

Welcome. I'm in Middletown. You do CART or FCSCC events?

240 - I did 2 CART events last summer both at the Hartford lot. My season got cut short since I spend from July to November in California for work. Should be able to do a lot more this year.

I used to run with CART a lot, but for some reason this year FCSCC schedule always seemed to work out. I think I ran 4 events with them this year.

I tend to prioritize the Maine ones with Cumberland MC since I meet up with my brother up there. Lots of them overlap but should still do atleast a few in CT.

Got my timing all good now and gotta do emissions before my MS and Wideband go in. Also gotta find out why my radiator cap is suddenly leaking.

Update:

So the winter project has kinda turned into a Spring project due to the fact my garage isn't heated and it was cold. Progress has been consistent though.

I've been running off the DIYPNP for about 1 month now and have the UEGO installed in the vent. Will be moving to A pillar once the holder comes in.

Had a loud ruckus coming from the engine and after tracing it down found that the water pump pulley could be wiggled back and forth. Really makes me bang my head against the wall that I didn't do it when I did the TB job. Removed the Water pump and found this:

Metal disk came off impeller and was bouncing around in engine block. not surprisingly the engine is almost silent now in comparison since its been replaced.

While the engine was apart I took the opportunity to remove the power steering and loop the lines. Only driven it once like this so far but liked how it feels. Real test will be the first AutoX of the season which is quickly approaching.

Next project is installing 700cc DeatschWerks injectors (decided against the RX7 460s, anyone want to buy them?) and making sure the tune is good for those. Ordered the FM2 No Electronics with hard lines and Inconnel studs. Some parts are backordered though so 2-3 weeks to wait for that. More updates will come as it gets pieced together more.

Cool. Good progress, excited to see the FM2 kit mounted. I am in the same boat with the cold garage. We should have a CT "meet" sometime. We can stare at eachother's engine bays and stuff.

You should mosey on up to Devens for an event, but then FCSCC events will feel like a let down.

Get moving on this! I need some SM turbo miata competition @ FCSCC autox this summer. I am sick of having no one comparable in my class anymore. They are all faster, haha.

Will you be at the Cart event on 4/12 or FCSCC on 4/13? I think I will be driving my new DD BRZ with the fiance. :-)
