I would love to get my hands on a gt2554. In the UK there are lots of turboso, but there are also lots of clued-up buyers. There are 2 other turbos I'm looking at, IHI14V and Volvo t5 TD04 t16If you have one of these, tell me, I will send you the money.
Any and all other advice appreciated. |
Thanks for your help, my preference is the k04 turbo from an Audi tt 225. I have to fabricate Tue exhaust system, at least the kkk flange is sensible, I.e. round, with a sensible bolt flange pattern, The turbo outlet from a Garrett looks like amputation road kill....

I'm somewhat surprised that you can't get a Nissan SR20 T25 (S13) journal bearing turbo from somewhere. They have the standard Garrett 5 bolt roadkill flange and are found on OEM Nissan applications. Other than the lack of ball bearings, they are pretty damn close to a 2554. We have the things all over the damn place here in the US and Nissan never imported anything here that had one stock. Hell, even I've got one in my garage and I'm a stupidcharger guy.
|
pplease, prove me wrong, if you can find one for sale in the UK, then key me know. TD04 gtm sugary and 16t from Volvo are easy to find. send me links, or an offer. thank you for your help. I would love a light weight ball nearing turbo.
|
No worries man, I was just surprised is all. I'd sell you my T25 but if it ever died, you would be right back searching for a replacement with no cheap alternatives. There are a bunch of guys who have used the TD04 on here, its a solid unit that should also work well for you. If they are plentiful, go for it!
I had to look up the flange on the KKK and you are right, that thing is EZMode http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-1380710...242_1879983182 I better understand the roadkill comment now  |

the sr20 t25 makes for a great Turbo on a 1.8l
|
I have one of these. It's a bit larger than you need, but it makes ~200 at ~8-9psi which generates very little heat.

I've bought a used td04 from a subaru for £50. I'll see what its like when it arrives, but it should fit the bill.
|
I thought is wait until is made some progress before I ask more stupid questions. Bought an intercooler yesterday, Ford focus rs, £18.50. Got to love ebay. Buying a 94 1.8 b-special on Sunday to strip. My friend is going halves as he wants the torsen diff for his 1.6. Onwards and upwards.
|
That Subaru turbo will be a nice match. It is a td04-13T if I recall. They have strange flanges but are a good turbo.
Here's a great place for the flanges you will need to weld on. http://www.weir-tech.com/turbo-inlet.../8-mild-steel/ http://www.weir-tech.com/turbo-outle.../8-mild-steel/ |
Thanks for the link but I will probably model the flange and have them laser/water jet cut locally. It's more fun that way.....also can anyone confirm subaru impreza injectors are suitable for the mx5 mk1 1.8. Seem to be the cheapest, most readily available injectors in UK. Not sure if they are high or low impedance either.
looking at wideband controllers, plx, aem or innovate. All are about the same price over here. Which is best with ms2 ecu? Thanks Laurence |
I'm using the Innovate with my MS.
|
Every time anyone asks the wideband question, the answer is always LC-1 or an MTX-L.
I had an AEM UEGO, but I'm not a fan of gauges with the dancing LEDs around the perimeter. Personally I'll be using an LC-1 with a VEI D1-BOP-WBA-MO. |
the MTX-L has dancing LEDs around the perimeter...
|
...so I bought a LC-1

They need adapters as they are shorter but the electrical connector and coil resistance are ok. |
I've bought blue wrx injectors. Think I'll see if I can modify the rail mounting to move it 12 mm before pursuing the extended caps. Fuel pump is going to be wrx too, only about £10 and I'll modify the fuel tank so it'll be an in tank installation. This seems to be better for pump reliability and cooling of the unit.
Wideband, I'm going with innovate as this seems to get good praise here and elsewhere online. I'm buying a complete 1.8 eunos import (i know they're ALL imports) on Sunday for £450 with a friend who wants the Torsen diff. I'll keep the engine and transmission and radiator etc then selling the rest we should break even. I'll order the ms2 from reverend next week. This is the biggest single cost of the conversion, so fingers crossed, but I've heard nothing but praise for these units. Thanks for all the help so far and thank goodness for eBay January bargains! |
The Megasquirt is a solid unit, but the learning curve is very steep. You WILL hate it at some point and seriously consider giving up. If you can get past that frustration, it will reward you.
Are you going to be using the harness out of the donor car for the Phoenix, or just wire in the Megasquirt critical circuits? |
