Default Just picked up a turbo'd 99 10AE

So, I just dropped $7,000 on a '99 10AE, that has less than 40k miles on it.

The engine was rebuilt at around 34,000 from previous abuse, and had forged pistons, moly rings, etc in it...

It currently has a FM exhaust manifold attached to a "T25/T28" Chinacharger, and runs out through a FM exhaust.

The EMS is a MicroTech LT-10s...

Now, I have already noticed a few things that need work/"quirks"

The car has not yet had a good tune put on it, and with the base map, the engine is running REALLY rich on idle, and keeps running pretty rich throughout the RPM range...

It also smells like there is an exhaust leak when the car is idling, but ONLY when the car is idling. As soon as it gets moving, can't smell it anymore... Wondering if it is a bypass hose that might be leaking or such...

The other is that after turning off the engine, the coolant was boiling in the reservoir. The car has a racing radiator, and never showed the temperature getting too high.

$7k for a 10AE? AND it's turbo'd???? AND it's a Microtech LT-10???? You stole it.
Post pics and update your info of where your from. Are you from Australia? If you're from US and you're running MicroTech, I want more information.

Yup. It is all of those things. The one thing it is NOT is remotely tuned.

So, until I can get it to a good tuner (as I am new enough to all of this that I don't want to screw it up trying to do it myself)... I won't really be driving it much.

This weekend, I will be doing all of the basic maintenance stuff, replacing the gasket on the outlet flange, washing it, and taking pictures for posting. Next week, I will be taking it to a local trusted mechanic to make sure that I am not missing something, aside from needing new spark plugs from them getting fouled from running way too damn lean, and a proper tune. Shortly after repairing anything identified by them, I will get 4 new tires and bring it somewere for a proper idle to 7k tune...

It is in the US, and it is running off of a Microtech LT-10S. Pretty impressed with just how much can be done on that EMS...

Are you on the East Coast? I know a guy that specializes in Microtech Tuning for CHEAP.

Nope. Not on that side of the country anymore. I am in Arizona, more specifically Sierra Vista. I will have to go to get it tuned in either Tucson or Phoenix.
