Default Longtime Lurker, New Miata

So I figure I should make an introduction since I've accidentally become a long time lurker on MT.net. Oops. Anyways, I'm Tom and I'm from Lexington, Ky. I bought my first Miata in July 2005, and it's where my user name comes from. I had the car, off and on, for 6ish awesome years.

Here's what it looked like towards the end of the time that I owned it. I think I took that picture right after I put the 6UL's on for the first time. Anyways, it had some suspension/chassis mods done to it, but the drive train was largely stock and N/A for the entire time I owned it. I had big plans for it, but life happened and it got sold in Oct 2011. I needed money for college far more than I needed a third car in the garage that couldn't really drive in the winter. Oh well.

Fast forward a few years, and a few different cars, and I'm looking to buy something more sporty than a lifted Jeep. After looking continuously for months, I kept coming back to wanting a Miata. After looking at prices, I kept coming back to wanting an NB. Once the wife told me that she wanted another convertible, the decision was easy. After thinking about it, I decided that I wanted an NB2 and any color other than silver. So I started reading, doing nationwide autotrader searches for low mileage NB's and searching forums for a car. After more research, I decided that I wanted an N/A car, preferably a 6spd, so that I could toss some sort of forced induction on it myself. So I decided that I didn't want an MSM.

Then this happened;

So much for not wanting silver or an MSM. I guess this means I'm bad at impulse spending. Anyways, I bought it off miata.net from a guy in North Carolina. 2004 Ti GT package with 42k miles. Only real mod is a Miata Roadster short shifter and a boost gauge.

It's the 2nd turbo car that I've owned, I had a short stint with a DSM that never ran right. So far I'm still working on my plans for it, but I'd like to get it to 200ish hp without having to do any motor internals. The first round of mods that I'm planning will more than likely include a MSPNP for the MSM, since the factory tune is garbage. I haven't figured much out other than that.

So anyways, I'm going to go back to lurking and being a total noob when it comes to boost. I am glad that everyone here has put to together such an awesome resource of information about these cars, hopefully I can add something to it without asking too many stupid questions!

Megasquirt, exhaust, intake, intercooler, injectors and you're there comfortably.

Great looking car, congrats.

I had an MSM just like that and I sold it because the factory tune was so bad. DO THE MS-PNP BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE. Well, that and I think the factory intercooler pipes blow off or something? Mine had a Flyin Miata Little Enchilada package on it when I bought it, so I never experienced that.

Seems like there's a common theme here......

But yeah, the MS-PNP is the first power mod I'm doing. Should be interesting, I've never dealt with attempting to tune a car before. I'll probably mess it up bad and blow the thing sky high. Its a tie between the MS and doing something about the factory 17's. I hate those almost as much as I hate the factory tune.

18psi - After reading your build thread yours is basically what I want to end up with, minus the E85 since there's only like one station around here that has it.
