Default Looking for a project car

Hi, I'm Everett and I'm a seventeen year old kid who is looking to buy his first Miata. I've started to save some money and I came here looking for some guidance on what year or spec of Miata would be a good buy.

I'm looking for a car that I can put the top down, will handle great, and easy to work on and upgrade. I plan on lowering the car and hopefully turboing it to get some extra power.
Just looking for some help on the buying, upgrading process. Any recommendations as to which model or year?

NA8 is my recommendation. Not sure what smog laws are like in your area, but I think the most desirable is going to be pre-96 if smog is a factor. Don't bother with NA6 unless you're going to swap anyway. The good news is, I'd bet you can't find better examples than what's available in AZ!
