Default Lurker gets his ride

Ok, so its not turbo, and it won't be for awhile because I subscribed to the "Buy once, cry once" school of commerce.

I picked up this 2001 Midnight Blue Mica Miata LS locally for $9,500 out the door. (including tax, title, tags) While it was more than I had hoped to spend, I kept going back to it thinking "If I was able to buy one back in 2001, this is EXACTLY what I would buy." Also, it only has 41,000 miles on it which is terrific.

The ONLY defect I found was the radio. Someone pulled the original radio and put in an aftermarket unit that I am none to pleased with. I will try and make it work but it looks like it may be my first mod, as lame as it might be.

Someone really really loved this car and it shows. I hope to do the same.

Lovely car minus the fuel door, yellow calipers, and tan top

Tan top and fuel door are not huge issues IMO. I would immediately strip off the yellow paint though

I like the tan top, actually. I think the darker body colors look better with the lighter top color.

I really really like this car. Are you saying you wish you had the stock radio? My car has the stock one in there, and I thought a lot about putting in an aftermarket one. If I decide to do that, perhaps you will be interested in buying my stock one?

Thirdgen: Perhaps. My problem isn't so much the fact that its aftermarket as it is complicated and ugly. I couldn't even figure out how to turn it off without turning the car off. Might you have a link to a picture of a stock radio?

The Calipers are my biggest problem with the car, but I can't see wasting my time pulling them off just to strip the paint. Maybe just paint over the yellow? What color do you suggest? Grey?

I actually like the tan top and the fuel door. I like a TINY bit of bling, and it was a factory option. If it was aftermarket I would yank it.

You can just get caliper paint and paint right over the yellow. Oddly enough, I used some generic $2/can gloss black stuff on my GF's MSM and my stock brakes and it holds up pretty well...but I'd still get the caliper paint if I were you.

Oh and 99 radio 01 radio. Since you have leather I'd think you had the BOSE radio. If you are looking to go back to stock, look for a 01-05 BOSE 6-disk. Sound is kinda muddy though. You'll also need to check and see if the door speakers were replaced with non-BOSE and if the BOSE pre-amp is still in the car. Some people do it right and remove all the BOSE, some people don't.

Sorry I didn't get back to you, ran into the full mailbox and forgot to cut/paste my response for later.

Looks like you still found what you were looking for though Better option than that expensive (IMO) NA.

Here is a question - is the problem with the calipers that they are yellow? I see your car has red calipers - and if I did paint them a color that would be what I would pick. I tend to only like special paint/finishes on stuff when it comes that way. Just wondering what the consensus is.
