Default Lurker No More

Hello!

I'm Nikolai; I've been leeching off the massive store of knowledge found on this forum for a while. I've yet to actually do anything with my acquired knowledge, but I'm hoping to megasquirt and then turbocharge my miata before the end of the year.

I've got a 2003 LS; right now the only mod I have is an AEM ram air intake. It made a noticeable difference in acceleration in the lower gears, and it sounds wicked cool...not enough power though. Hence the turbo dream ;-)

I've not done a ton of work on cars in general, but I'm a mechanical design engineer for Cummins, so I know a bit about engines...even if they are diesel, haha. One plus is that every Cummins engine has at least one turbo, sometimes more like 4, and one even has 12 (true story; necessary for high altitude, quick load response), so I'm somewhat acquainted with the general idea of turbos and how they work and don't work...and explode and melt things. I'm hoping to avoid that in my car.

Anyway, it seems like there are some wicked smart people on this forum, so I'm looking forward to learning more!

Welcome to the forum. What part of the world are you in?

You should post some pictures.

I work for a Cummins dealer.

I just filled out my details; I work at the world headquarters in Columbus, IN. I'm working on the pictures...I actually don't have a camera, and my phone cam doesn't send things to my computer well...maybe I can borrow my sister's camera when I go home for the weekend.

What applications does your dealer work with? I'm in high horsepower, so the turbos I work with are about the size of the entire engine on my Miata, haha. Being in Florida, I'm going to guess either marine or heavy duty...we don't have much high horsepower stuff down there I don't think.

We are a heavy construction equipment dealership. We deal with mining, pipelaying, roadbuilding, and scrap metal/waste handling types of machines predominantly. Everything from your 4.5 liter offerings up to your Cummins 30 liter V12.

Oh ok, I work on the 23L, which goes in a lot of Komatsu heavy machinery; I'm sure you've seen some of them then. That's pretty cool! Any particular complaints I should keep in mind when designing things? It's always good to hear what the dealers and customers think about our engines.

I'll talk to the guys in the shop. I'm on the sales side and we're ok.
