Mahlzeit (another noob)
I got a Montego Blue Mica 95 (PS, AC, LSD) with 150K miles 3 months ago, it came with Harddog rollbar (double diagonal with harness bar) and fairly new adjustable Koni's, Panasport rims and Momo steering wheel.
I also got a 6-speed and a 1.6 LSD rear end with it on the side (not sure why the PO bought the 1.6 rear end), sold the rear end and I'm still making up my mind on the 6-speed, keep it and install it when it's time to upgrade the clutch or sell it.
I did the foamectomy but I still didn'y like the seat (the seat rear dig into my shoulder blades after the foamectomy) so I got a Lotus Elise seat on ebay and fabed a mount (those Harborfreight Flux wire welders are a hand full).
I got the handling sorted out by now (installed FM spings and sways and got a set or R1Rs), now it's time to add boost.
I can't make up my mind, Supercharger or Turbo (I know, the audienece around here is slightly biased..).
I plan on running the Miata on the local tracks (Pacific Raceways, Portland, maybe Spokane), the Pacific GP Kart track and the occasional auto cross.
It's also my daily driver for the summer months (my other car is a 04 Audi S4).
Here's my wish list:
- reliable for track use
- reasonable cost
- instant power (for auto cross and the kart track)
- 180-200 whp (I don't want to deal with tranny and rear end issues)
I have an EE and CS backgrond and know how to use a soldering iron so I'm planning on going with a Megasquirt DIY. I did some searching on the forum but it looks like using MS with a knock sensor doesn't seem to be very common, any ideas why?
I'm scouring the classifieds for something that fits a 1.8 (just missed out on a M45 kit), looks like there's about 4 times as much stuff for the 1.6 out there tan for the 1.8.
Any turbo owner from the Pacific Northwest around?
Gunter
(PS: For those who wondered what Mahzeit means, Mahlzeit is a german slang greeting)
