Default Miata Noob here

Hi everyone. I currently drive a ‘95 Mustang gt and sometimes an ‘03 viper (whenever my dad isn’t ) I’m looking to pick up a relatively cheap nb Miata in the next week or two to learn how to tune a car, probably using Megasquirt. After I learn how to do that, turbo time. The one question I haven’t been able to figure out is what is different from a ms2pnp or ms3pnp versus the fully assembled ms2 or ms3 except for the harness? And can you adapt a ms2 or ms3 harness to plug in relatively easy. Thanks in advance for all the help!

Welcome to the forum. Some of the info you seek is in the "sticky" threads.

Check out the DIY FAQ thread, too.

Welcome to the forum. If your Miata is Red make sure you don't mistake it for the Viper when cutting into the loom for the ECU.

I won this on Copart for $525! Supposedly run and drive and the only issues are "minor scratch and dent", and it has 123k miles. Excited to go pick it up tomorrow!

Oh man, I'm excited to see how this goes... if the car is as described that's a hell of a cheap start

It also has structural rust issues plainly seen from that one picture.

I'm not sure which part of "structural" you didn't understand...

A little bit of rocker rust isn’t the end of the world. I’m going to sell the car in the spring and get probably 3x what I paid for it anyways. I’ll buy a rust free one then. I’m not really too worried about it.

You're not getting it.

Rocker rust = structural.

Doing the repair correctly does not include bondo. Bondo-ing it and then selling it at a profit without disclosing your improper repair makes you a bad person.

Your call.

I’m not an ***, I’m going to disclose it. The frame rails look to be fine. Worst case I part it out and still make all my $525 and then some back.

If you know the car has herpes and are ok with it, then great. Just beat on it, enjoy it, and drive it into the ground (literally).
But yeah, repairing that will require a lot of cutting and welding, not bondo. Parting will definitely get you your money back and more

Frame rails are not rocker panels. Rocker panels are structural on these cars as well, in case what i've been saying is hard to understand.

I agree that for $525 it's hard to go wrong. I'm just imploring you to repair the thing correctly.

This is MiataTurbo. We like doing things the right way here.

yea I get that it’s structural. It’s also not to the point where the car is falling apart, or will be within the next year. I’m just gonna clean it up and slap some bondo on there so it looks decent, beat on it and tune it, turbo it, and then rip all those parts off, and put them on a cleaner car. and if someone wants to buy it as is I will disclose the issue. If no one is interested, I’ll part it out and make money back either way.
