The only problem with a $150 car is that it makes a all the mods seem that much more expensive. But good deal!
A 1.8? That's 4x the cost of your car. A MS3x? That's 6x the cost of your car. |
still, no real change to the MS...just a few buttons to press.

It really depends on how you go around your 1.8 swap. you can do it the lame, peon way and just use all 1.6 wiring harness, sensors, 1.6 ingiton and throttle body. Doing it this way is easy but... lame - No sequential unless you rewire your harness, poor timing accuracy, lame ingitor, tach signal comes from coils, etc etc etc.
Or, you can do it the right way and use a crank sensor, NB throttle body and NB knock sensor (or any other knock sensor). It's more involved but is superior. Either way, all you would need to do is change configuration in tuner studio and wiring. You don't need to mod the MS3 in any way or form (other than add-on knock board).

awesome would be to get a complete 01-05 engine, preferably with a 6 speed already attached.
then find a 94-95 block for dat driver side oil feed aftermarket or 99-00 intake manifold then build it all. advantages of 01-05 engine as starting point vs other 1.8s: - VVT - Main bearing support plate - NB sensors if you want to stay super-cheap, just regularly check all of the crazy rays junkyards in the Baltimore area. There GOT TO be a 2001+ miata there eventually. I got my 99 head from crazy rays. |
Yeah I was going to start checking out crazy rays. I have grabbed a few things from there before it is fun!!!
So the uber motor will be a 94-95 block with the vvt head and a 99-00 intake, right. Also I am going to start shopping for a new 1.8 rearend, it is starting to get the slightest whine to it. Damn autocross launches. |
Does anyone have experience with Co-part? They have a 01 in Waldorf, MD.

oh shit that site is glorious!!!
call mazda and ask if it has a Torsen (probably not tho) |
For second there I thought you might have been the guy I met in Idaho that bought a NA for 150 bucks. First (and only) S/C 626 swap Ive ever seen was in that car.
Anyways, looks like you snagged a great deal for a autox vehicle! |
Hey welcome. I've met you at some of the DC auto-x's. My wife and I drive the white MK1 MR2.
I haven't even met Soviet yet, even though he is comrade from old country. |

The only problem with the site is you have to go through a reseller. The car went for over $1500. :vash:
Thanks. It's a shame that the season ended so early. I will see you out there next year. Maybe I will bring the autocross kitten out  Russian sleeper cell in the D.C. area Yeah its a shame...I was really borred with Auto'X this year though. Maybe build another car for next year...maybe not care. Russkies don't sleep. While Americans sleep we steal your jorbs :2cents: |
too busy exploding turbine wheels and autocross just doesn't arouse me anymore.
|
