Seriously about the tires: you want the best summer street tires that you can buy. I'm not talking the most expensive tires, but search around the autocross/track forums and craigslist to see if someone's dumping a set of wheels and good street tires. To get the best experience out of a Miata (any car IMO), you want a good set of dedicated summer tires and a $3-400 set of winter beater wheels with good snow tires for the winter (if driving daily year round).

Purists? Based on the number of us that drive subarus, focuses, etc. probably not. Pricks? Absolutely, but we're fun.
