Mmm, misinformation.

Nice to see a DSM'er taking corners.

I emailed back and forth with him. I was seriously considering buying that car, it's just too far from me. I'm filling with diesel right now on my way home from picking up the Miata.

Just from pictures, I can see another 100lbs that can come out of his car which is why I know I can get to 1800lbs but put a goal of 1700. 1700 may require some fabing of a few parts and take some time, but it should be down to 1800 pretty darn quick.

Hey John
Not FTD anymore. Matt and John in John's miata have been destroying us. Hence, the new build.

Yeah we don't hold hands around here. Your grammar is ok, that's a plus. You didn't ask a bunch of stupid questions, that's a plus.

Go to the main page. It list all the different forums. There's one for DIY turbo stuff, prefabed stuff, miata in general, engine management, and several others. Click each one and at the top there will be stickies. Read through them. That will keep you busy for a while. I will stop, I'm not the newb police.

Where's Samnavy when you need him?
He's getting his noob cannon bore sighted!

Warm welcome! If you weren't beat with the banstick, consider yourself semi-accepted!

Guess I'm doing pretty good then, since my greet thread got pretty much no attention vs. people waving their n00b sticks at me. But I know a couple people on this board, and (I think) I gave a good bit of knowledge on m-net that a few others saw. So people know I'm not brainless.

Nice to see a Mitsu guy looking for something besides big power. Unless you count the 5 liters of Ford power (if you want to call it that. Just teasing.) that you want to dump in the front.

Did I miss where he said he wanted to drop a 5.0 in it? By monster I think he just means in terms of power:weight, not being scary that it could break down at any time.

Surely not, as he clearly stated that. And to which I addressed in my joking reference to the 5liters of Ford power.

Got a question for you guys. I've been doing some reading and have looked for answers to some of my questions. Here is one I haven't found.

Ok
NA is a 90-97
NB is a 99-05
NC is a 06 to current

Right so far?

What is a BP?

Right. And BP is the designation for the type of engine our miata has. Kinda like Honda has D series, B series, K, H, etc. We have BP's.

There's all kinds of lingo I haven't figured out yet and some other questions as well. I've been reading posts for hours. Supposedly all the answers to my questions exist somewhere and I should find the answers rather than ask so I don't get flamed again. Oh well, back to reading.

Yeah. I'm gonna have to look around and get familiar with the Miata motor variants. This would be so much easier if we were dealing with Toyota motors. Now there's a language I can speak. ge, gze, 4a, 3s, 5s, 1uz, fe etc.

1700 is a lofty goal I think. You'll be removing at least 400lbs + what you are adding in terms of turbo gear and rollbar. I'd say you are looking at 500lbs to reach your goal of 1700.

Also the greddy turbo isn't what you want for an autocross car. I found the power to come on late and far too suddenly. A GT2560 or GT2554R should be what you are looking at.

Good luck, if you get it there it'll be stupid to drive!

The response of the greddy feels pretty good to me. It also depends on how you drive. I left foot brake.

As for the 1700lbs. Might make it and might not. It's simply a goal. I believe that 1800 is attainable for sure. In XP our minimum weight will be 1648 so I set a goal close to that. If I can only get it to 1800 so be it. It's still gonna be a pretty fast autocrosser at that point. I have my work cut out for me to try that's for sure.

On the turbo subject again. I can't say that I have any experience with a BB turbo and what that center section does for spool. But of the turbos you mentioned the Greddy has the smallest turbine wheel and based on that alone would spoon the quickest. It also has a smaller aspect ratio which is quicker spooling as well. The compressor side is a little smaller, but from what I've read should support well over my hp goal.
