Default New from FL

New to the whole miata thing, was all about 240s and decided to try something different, have owned my 91 miata for a little over a year now, the 1.6 decided to it wanted to go dancing and wobbled itself out. So i bought a 04 MSM swap running a 99 head on it for an awesome price "400$" only problem is cylinder 2 had slight lower compression then the rest, but came with everything needed, full swap, full turbo kit with upgraded FM FMIC, full exhaust, wideband, boost controller etc etc, so deal was to good to pass up.

the motor now is being sent to the machine shop to get bored out this will be the set up of the build so far.

04 MSM block
99 head
5A cam
FM valve spring kit
Arp headstuds
cometic headgasket
Wiesco pistons 84mm
Manley rods

still trying to figure out my turbo situation as i want to keep my ac an ps but have a turbo that can hadle 450++

You had better hurry up and get an SR20 overnighted in from Japan. If you wait too long they will be fetching quite a premium right before Race Wars.

What transmission are you planning to use with 450++ hp? A T101 or a Lenco? Because no Miata trans will handle it. And what rear diff, the Getrag or the Ford? Because the Miata diff won't handle it.

Sorry I should have worded that differently, I dont plan on running that kind of power anytime soon prob not even try to reach that hp number, I just dont want to upgrade to a turbo with only a 300hp rating and eventually try to go high then that and have to look for a whole new turbo again. My realistic goal is like 290-310whp, figured 6speed tranny could hold that with a TII diff, but like i said im new to these miata builds so im here for insight and help.

A stock 1.8 diff can hold 300 on the street or road course. If you are drag racing or dirfting you will find it to be insufficient. The trans is the weak link at 300. The community is working on a solution.

Even the 6 speeds are weak at 300? Ive heard/seen people running 300 on the 5 speeds and talk about how the 6 speeds are alot stronger, the car is mainly street, weekend driving, just a play around car not gunna be daily use or a ton of driving on It.

~250-260whp on a 5speed and ~300-320ish on the 6speed depending upon type of use and empathy. Sometimes more sometimes less.

Yeah I been trying to find a trans and rear option for awhile. So far I came up with an rx7 trans and rear as a option . I know some company makes a ford rear axels for the miata, I think .

Yes, Myron. V8Roadsters makes conversion kits to use Ford differentials and Getrag differentials as I mentioned earlier in the thread. There is also a bellhousing available to attach several different models of very strong transmission to the BP/B6 engine, like the T101 or the Lenco trans I mentioned earlier.
