so far its holdin up well. its got garrett internals now because an idiot didnt realize that the shaft nuts were reverse thread and broke it, after he had a 5 foot oil drain line on it and blew the seals out...

like i said before, during the installation process, the guy working on it used like a 5 foot oil drain hose causeing the seals to blow out. and in his attempt to take it apart, didnt realize the shaft nuts were reverse thread, so he snapped the shaft. SO it got rebuilt with garrett internals and new seals.

 

is it ok to wrap a manifold like thaT? iv always wondered. seeing as that gets very hot, the wrap keeps under hood temps down, but in turn, does it not help deteriorate the metal the manifold is made of?

as far as wrapping the manifold yes it will help deteriorate the header faster since water and stuff will get trapped in between the wrap and header and what not. is it good to do? I would say yes, sorta like wrapping the downpipe: underhood temps lower, keeps all heat/energy going to the turbine, etc. It is a VERY common thing done in subaru community among many others

 

is it worth it? like is shelling out 300 some odd dollars for a downpipe and then have it be scrap in 2-3 years? vs 6-7 without wrap?

 

well people do everything they can for more power. every little bit helps I guess..if you're asking if id do it then no lol......

hey threadstarter, care to chime in here? was there any significant difference?

 

My old setup was wrapped for 6 years and when I unwrapped it there wasn't any signs of rust or anything else. It actually looked much better than the portions that weren't. Other people have different experiences but I believe it has more to do with the type of metal rather than if it was wrapped.

Like the pictures though, nice car.

 

Is that the Ebay exhaust manifold? How many miles do you have on the setup?

 

yeah, ebay header. eh, not sure how many miles i have on it, not a whole lot tho. still working bugs out. and the reason for the wrap is to cut underhood temps. and it did so dramatically. had the dp off some some reason, and had some extra wrap, so i decided to wrap that too. thanks for the comments on the car
