Default New guy in Alexandria VA

Hey all,
I'm DJ, currently living in Alexandria VA. I have wanted a Miata since I was a kid (still in my mid-to-late 20s, but still) and spent the last 14 or so months looking constantly to find the right one. Finally found a NA6 with coilovers, frame bracing, wideband, exhaust, lightweight flywheel, torsen, aftermarket clutch, and a bunch of other goodies. Picked that up a day after it was posted on CL and have been loving it. I decided after driving it a bit that it wants a turbo (I explain to my girlfriend that the car wants it and who am I to say no), so the plan has become to get it boosted by the middle of next year. I'm not in a huge rush and hope to keep the full cost of the build under $5k, $900 of which was used for the MS I just ordered off here, and I'll do all the work as a way to learn more. Main use is a psudo-daily driver (my Wrangler gets a few days due to dog duty) and occasional track use.

Ideally I want to make about 250whp I've seen everywhere that putting a turbo on a 1.6 is dumb, but I never said I was smart. My thought is to get something that'll work on the 1.6 and if something blows up, swap it to a 1.8 and get a new manifold and call it a day. I also have a '16 Wrangler and an old truck that just gets me to and from my shooting range, so if something blows up or I have to have the car apart for a while it's not the end of the world. I bought a MS off the forum a day or two ago, and I plan to mess with that before doing anything else once it comes in, and probably after I shoot nationals next month. I work a ton and shoot USPSA pretty competitively, so I don't have much in the way of free time but am looking to dump a lot of that spare time into this project.

The week after I bought my car was the Mid-Atlantic Miata Expo and the community was great, so looking forward to meeting more folks since the Jeep community around here isn't too strong. If you see a Miata with the plate LOL-S2K come say hi. License plate trolling is my thing, my Wrangler is LOL-FJ.

Welcome. There are a good number of miata owners in the NoVa area. I used to live up there and was super active in the community.
