Default Noob from Fowlerville Michigan

Hello all,
My name is Mark Andrews and I am de-noobing myself finally. I purchased a red 92 Miata late August of this year from a guy named Joe Perez. I think he is on the forum here .

Anyways about myself, I am a 30yr old married guy working as a web designer for Johnson & Johnson. My first car was an 88' Monte Carlo SS with a +400hp 383 stroker motor in it. My family has always been into cars, but I have mostly grown up around the muscle scene.

Come this past summer, my dad in his 08' Z06, uncle in his 65' VW VR6 Notchback and cousin in his 02' S4 all decided to start a summer track day weekend at Watkins Glen. With all the fun they had, I could not sit around and just watch... I had to get a car for next summer.

Which led me to the miata scene. I was looking for a budget racer that already had a nice build with suspension and light performance. Reading as much information as I could, I was sold on the miata. Though my family was making fun of me for wanting such a vehicle, I pushed ahead with trying to find the right car. And then I saw Joe's 92 Mazda Miata up for grabs on ebay. In the end, Joe let me buy such Miata off of him. Though there was a ton of craziness with the damn transport company Joe kept his cool and it all seemed to work out. *BTW don't ever use AUSA Logistics, not only shitty service but they double charged me and it took 3 months to get a refund of the fraudulent second check.

The car was immediately washed the next day due to the nasty travels from California to Michigan and tucked into the garage.

End novel.. signing books at the local closed Borders.

Some pics:

Next steps are to get it ready for next summer's track days. Rollbar, brakes and of course a nice set of wheels and tires for it. Being new to the miata scene and even turbo scene, I will be stalking the forums. Thank you for reading.

Nice. Lots of miatas popping up here in Michigan. And turbo ones at that. Hopefully i'll be done by summer.

Thank you Rick, Erat and Braineack for the welcome. Like I said, been stalking/trolling the forums and thought it was time I joined in the fun. I'm trying to wrap my brain around the mechanics of this car, because I don't know much about megasquirt tuning (yet). I want to get to know my baby haha. Get close and personal.

@Erat - Yeah man grats on your ride, I hope it all works out for you. Just a bummer that it is winter time now... well sorta winter time haha. But a great time to wrench on it.

Yeah save all the work you need to do for now, the winter time. Hopefully i'll learn something here as this is my first turbo build. They say to use the search, but i don't even know what questions to ask.

You're not to far outside of Detroit, maybe we'll run into each other sometime.

@Erat - Same here, I didn't build my car so I'm here to understand what it is and how to fix it if it breaks.

But I am not far from Detroit. I will be trying to get out more with the car next summer, mostly around Ann Arbor with some of the A2 Sport Compact peeps. Another guy just purchased a blue turbo miata that was for sale on the forums.

Do you partake in the xceedspeed forums? They have a nice bbq each summer. So there are many chances we may run into each other.

Yeah, i'm a pretty heavy regular on xceed. My build thread is:
http://www.xceedspeed.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=182415

The turbo part starts around page 26.

I've been to the past 3 or 4 BBQ's. In fact, i helped host (kinda) the fall BBQ With Josh, Nate, and Matt. Helped with food and what not, also helped start then extinguish the grill fire.

I'm going to try and frequent woodward on the weekend nights as much as i can. Hopefully attend one or two "training" day autocrosses, or the ones that just let you do fun runs all day.

You bought a good car, but did Joe put those wheels on it?

@Gearhead_318 - thank you, I actually asked for those wheels. It was those or a set Daisies and I wasn't a fan of the Daisies. I'm hoping to replace them with a set of proper 15's come spring.

Welcome.
Joe is one of the coolest cats on this whole forum.
If there ever is a good person to buy a car from, its him.

Good luck with your track days

@Erat- sweet I will check your build out. Good to know you frequent xceed, some good peeps there. Do you know Damon or Misha? I work with them. I haven't been to a bbq in a while. But I'm hoping to check them out again come summer.

@18psi- thank you, I hope it works out as well. As for Joe, he was very great to deal with. My shipper did make things a little difficult for Joe, but it all worked out in the end. His work done to the car drove me to this site. Some of it is pretty intimidating and I'm trying to understand it.

Btw your car in your sig is hot.

Yeah i know Damon. Not so much on a personal level, but i've spoken to him. His 240 build is pretty crazy.
