New Here! NC n/a for now though.
Hey guys an gals! My name is Zach and I drive an 08 Galaxy Grey 6sp soft top (couldn't justify the added weight for the PRHT), plus I feel like the roadster should have a rag top
First, a little about me, followed by a breif summary of things I've done to my NC thus far and my future plans.
I've already told you my name, so let's move on. I've been driving my current NC since May of this year and LOVE every minute of it! Driving the mx5 is unlike any sports car I've driven before. While it's not fast, it still has HUGE fun factor to me!
I previously had two Mustangs (an 02 in Satin silver on full Griggs racing suspension with H/C/I done: bottom end couldn't handle the heads and cam spun rod bearings, pushrods THROUGH rockers, valves dropped and punched out the Long tube headers I spent so much time installing lol. )
I actually traded my most recent mustang for the miata. It was a Kona Blue 2010 mustang (wondeful car! But left room for lots of improvement in the power:weight)The 2010 had full Maximum Motorsports suspension setup on it, and I was thoroughly impressed with how nimble it became compared to stock, but it still felt like a boat anchor at it's limits on Nashville Super Speedway Road course. (HPDE) I ran 18x10 FR500 wheels at all four corners with 275/40's (just btw, I'm sure the question would arise somewhere)
My insurance became far too high for me to keep up with without help from
the rents, so thats why she got traded in.
So now with my insurance a full $400 cheaper every 3 months I have more mod money, seat time money haha
The mods are coming along quite slowly (partially due to the fact I'm Pre-anesthesia and barely have enough time to sleep and study, let alone modify a car to my liking) but the other part is I'm trying to do everything right the first time around on this car!
mods thus far:
Ohlins Coilovers
Hotchkis Front sway
Custom Intake (same dimensions externally [for the most part] as the mazdaspeed intake) only difference is volume is higher since I went ahead and did 3" intake piping.
Hawk HP+ pads
Weight Redection!
Gutted trunk, removed unneeded items such as steering wheel and seat belts and seats.......jk haha
Removed stock muffler and tossed it in the parts pile
Cut resonator off and chucked in parts pile
I'm currently building a custom 3" exhaust as well. (to complement future mods )
My next mod will hopefully be a set of Rpf1's 17x9 +45 wrapped in 235/45 adavan Neova AD-08's
Shortly after during my time off in the summer I may return to Spartanburg to take another performance driving school. (previously I attended the M Performance Driving school)
And hopefully by the end of 2012 I'll have a BEGi setup with the GT28rs (I think I remembered that right )
My Hp goals aren't ridiculous either, I'd be more than happy with 260whp.
Considering "cafenated" on YouTube with the help from the guys at MotoEast are making 325whp.....I don't see my goals as unreachable.
Anyway, I'm excited to be a part of your forum now, and I'll keep ya updated on any future mods!
Will post pics later
Thanks for readin fellas!

Very Cool! Thanks!
I'm quite familiar with forums (I helped start/setup The Tennessee Mustang Club and it's website)
But just as a general question, what's the "Tech:BS" ratio here ?
Ha!
We had a lot of drama on the mustang boards as well as few and far between tech threads :(
Thanks again!

Just went out and took some photos
Hopefully will upload tonight!
Cleaned my top drains today (apparently the previous owner neglected to ever clean them out)
They were completely clogged :/
No wonder I got "lake mx5" over on the passenger side...
Did some more weight reduction today also
No more barrier between the trunk and the cabin
No more plastic pieces where the top lays (made sure to make a cushion for the back glass)
Pass seat is out
As well as all sorts of unnecessary junk I had in the car.
All of that on top of the gutted trunk= more fun factor

And it's super fun
I still haven't done any adjustment on the coils yet (just threw em on after lunch the other day haha)
Need a lot less camber ( -7 f, -5 r ) embarrassing almost ha
And the front needs to come up a lot for it to really perform well
Realistically, I probably need about -3 front -2.5 rear
Not sure on toe or caster yet
I'll try to zero out my toe until the season starts back up
Caster .....meh I'll prolly set her up around +6
Thanks for the kind words

It's hard to find a decent tech forum anymore :/
I'm really excited about getting the turbo build started, but unfortunately (or fortunately more-so) I have to get a few things done before the car will e ready. Such as
Roll Bar (trying to decide if the factory crossbrace sucks enough to justify spending $400+ more for the Goodwin NASA bar with rear supports Vs the Harddog m3 double diagonal)
I love the work Brian does...but you know what they say...ya gotta pay to play
I also need
Trunk brace from Brian Goodwin
And a CRUCIAL element of a performance car, wheels and tires
So before I get to empty 4 grand out of the bank for the turbo
I've gotta spend 2/3 that much to get it ready
Gah, nodding is fun....but dang it's expensive!

I'd really like to get some chassis bracing elements..... But man that stuff is steep!
Coming from a mustang whose bracing only cost $250 plus welding for the ENTIRE BOTTOM OF THE CAR!
Ha!

NC parts are high because so few are being heavily modded yet.
Don't be afraid of Hard Dog. They build nice stuff.
And if it will help you get boosted sooner, get BEGi to quote you the kit with one of their "Shanghai" turbos instead of an actual Garrett. It won't have much trouble making the 260hp you are looking for for a lot less money.
Welcome.
