Thx guys, I just plan on tightening it up a little and making her stick better for now, after winter I think i may boost it. I know im looking for a hardtop also. Im not going to drift it, id just get a beat to hell 240 for that lol, i actually like this car. One thing tho, I have a sticky lifter on cold start and sometimes when its warm it will tap for a little when i start it. Any ideas on fixing that issue?

Change the oil. Should quiet it right down. That said, if it ticks for a couple of seconds and stops when it pumps up it's no biggie. Lots of them do this.

Everyone has an opinion on the ticky lifters. My car likes 5w30 or Rotella T6 to quiet them down.

Welcome.

Glad to hear you wont wreck this car into a wall doriftoing. +props.

That's just how they are. Theres a few different thing I've heard people use to fix lifter tick, but I've always just put good synthetic oil in the car and it doesnt tick 95% of the time. It ticks for 5-10 seconds on a cold start, and after a hot restart ticks for a little longs, maybe 1-2 mins. But ALWAYS goes away. doesn't bother me.

I've read anything from running ATF through the motor (for the detergent factors), to running seafoam, mystery oil, etc. Search around and there are a few things you can try.

DoItSideways you need to check out the regional section on m.net for the VA area. There is a large group of active miata people out towards Summit Point.

+1 ATF. I used it in a 1.8 that had been sitting for 4+ years...you would not believe the lifter racket coming out of that engine when I first got it...neverending. Drained 2qt of the old oil and replaced with ATF, let it idle for 30 min, drove it for 5-10, drained everything and refilled with Rotella. Now only ticks for a few seconds at startup.

Sounds like it's just the nature of the beast. Thx for your imput. I changed the oil with 5 30 about 1400 miles ago. It does always go away, but it behaves just as described.
