I assume it's like the kids who walk around with one pant leg rolled up. Left leg indicates that they're a top, right leg indicates that they're a bottom.
I've often speculated about the origin of the LOLWUT pear. What was the context? What was the author's frame of mind? Unfortunately, that image has been around so long and has been re-hosted so many times that tracking down the original seems like it would be impossible.

While i'm loitering on craigslist at miata's and e30's I always see ads for civics and 240's wanting to trade for miata's and e30, e36. It's very sad my favorite cars are being invaded by drifto's :'(.

It honestly never even occurred to me to check Knowyourmeme- I kind of assumed that this one had been around for so long that the origin would be indecipherable- lord knows I never had any luck trying to find it...
On the plus side, that link to the creator's DeviantArt page turns up a lot of interesting stuff. One, in particular, seems especially apropos for threads of this nature:
