Default Newish Miata owner from DFW Texas area

I bought my first Miata a couple of months ago, and have been lurking around here pretty much ever since. It's a red 1992 base (steelies ftw!) but a pretty solid car so far. I just moved to Texas for graduate school, and was originally going to build the car for SCCA Solo in STS class until getting my degree then go to some form of FI. I just took the car to my first track driving event this past weekend though, and I'm hooked and hoping to get boost sooner than originally planned and I figured I'd introduce myself here.

I've always wanted to learn to tune my own car, and the Miata seems like a pretty good platform to do that on. Boost isn't foreign to me as my 2 previous cars were a WRX, and a supercharged John Cooper Works MINI. Initially, I'll likely go with something basic with an MS (small turbo, no intercooler) while I learn the ropes of tuning, just to make the car a bit more fun in the straights, then add an I/C and go-faster bits as time and funds allow. I've got many other things to sort out on the car first (brakes, suspension, wheels, clutch, etc.) and as a student I have a pretty low budget that I'm trying to split evenly between actually driving and competing at events and adding to the car, so I've got plenty of time to read around here and learn before jumping in!

Hey welcome to the site! You should check out our sister site miataforumz.com

Love the look of a stock miata. Not sure what it is, but it just looks amazing. Maybe it's because the red reminds me of when I first got mine.

Welcome to the forum, DFW, and Miata's! I'm new here myself and new to Miata's but have been in the DFW area a long time. I'll probably see you out on the road!

Lots of us here from the DFW area. Check out dfwmiata.com. That's a really nice looking car. What are you studying?

Will have to check it out. The car looks a little different now, with a black offset stripe running down the car, and an abs gray finish panel - I tried to take off my factory one to repaint it because it was cracked and faded to pink, and it pretty much fell apart, haha..

Thanks for the compliment on the car - it photographs much better than it looks in person, hah. I'm active over on dfwmiata, that's actually how I found out about the time trial from this past weekend - same username over there. As for school, I have a BS in computer science, and I'm currently working toward an MS in computer engineering. My focus is in speech and signal processing, where I've worked for the four years while getting my BS, and for a year full time after graduating.

I edited the first post with footage from my GoPro at the track. Slow, I know, but fun regardless.
