NOOB Nerd from SLO,CA,USA
Hey All,
I have been reading the MT forums for about a year now, and I finally have something worth posting. I bought a Miata!
Her name is Bubbles. I picked her up as a guy's unfinished project. He had intended to build her up as a Spec Miata racer. WELP, I guess he got a bit distracted because by the time I found her on Craigslist she came in 3 boxes and had half of the cage welded in.
So after a quick week of putting back everything he had taken apart, and mounting some seats / windows / etc, I now have something like a car.
Upon registering the car, the very nice young lady must have found it very amusing to see a young man in a shiny white Miata, because out of the 100 license plates she had near her desk, she reached to a special shelf in her cupboard and blessed me with the fantastic plate I am now privileged to
carry.
(pronounced: SUCKS Diii....)
Anyway, so the previous owner decided to weld in the Miatacage.net cage in by himself. It looks kind of like this.
I would have tried to weld in the rest of the cage myself, but his failwelds scared me into paying a real shop to finish the cage. The car is getting the rest of the cage put in this upcoming weekend (including fixing the current welds) followed by some paint on the cage.
With the fantastic weight reduction Bubbles is also looking very monster truck.
Wheels, tires, and suspension will be coming up very soon.
I am planning to get some 15x9 black 6ULs because race car and Emilio seems like a cool guy, but I have not decided what suspension I will be going with. I am too much of a cheap --- to buy Xidas and I doubt I am a good enough driver to even tell the difference. I am considering the FM V-MAXXXXX Stage 10 Track Racecar Suspension Happy Meal, but I am going to do a bit more reading before I pull the trigger on anything.
The other item on the to-do list is the pending purchase of a used Greddy turbo kit with injectors and MS1. The price is reasonable and the kit is fairly complete so I expect to be making at least a few psi in the near future.
My planned use of the car is mostly for fun, track days, autocross, Highway 1, Upper Lopez Canyon, etc. My "daily driver" is a bicycle. Specifically one of 3 bicycles. So I am not to concerned about creature comforts.
Thanks for having the most knowledgeable forum (and kicking out the d-bags),
-Mike

I like beer! Let me know the next time you are up, I would be down to grab some drinks.
Trackspeed is here. I do plan on giving them my money. Unfortunately they don't have any coilovers / sway bars / wheels / tires listed for sale through their website and those will be my next few purchases. I am going to call them soon to see about chatting Miatas.
I will upload fresh weld pics once the cage is done.

There's a local Tuesday night meet at Madonna Plaza. We typically park in front of Big 5, but if it's too cold we hang out at the Starbucks across the parking lot. I'll be bringing Rover tonight.

Hmm, I don't think that we have any more of those. I will take a look on Monday. If I can find one I will send it your way.
I am diggity down.
I am just a little short on free time (as I am sure most people on this forum are) so I can't really commit to much.
Gordon was actually my track day in car instructor at Buttonwillow during the last Speed Ventures event.
I just met Andrew on Tuesday and bounced some modification and product ideas off of him....
----, there are a lot of engineers with Miatas.
When and where would Team 949racing would meet next?
