Smile Noob from Northeast PA

Hello Everyone,

I am a female endurance racer that trains in a 1999 NB Miata with a Flying Miata Turbo set up that I purchased 4 years ago . I am training to be second mechanic for our endurance team and have obtained enough knowledge to look as see exactly what I have in this Miata, so your forum will be very helpful. I've been doing minor work such as replace the first tier consumables and working through the second tier consumables deeper in the car. The previous owner did a great job setting the car up but again, it's been 4 years so it's time to start really going over it and how it operates. I just discovered that I have a MegaSquirt and have no idea how that operates yet. It's set so it's hands off for the time being

As for car experience, I have been an endurance racer for 4 years and race in Lemons and Lucky Dog race series. I receive my track education through NASA Great Lakes, attend NASA Northeast for track time, and am working towards my instructors certificate through NASA Great Lakes. I enjoy new track experiences so I have 15 tracks under my belt and one skid pad. BTW, turbos absolutely suck on skid pads, at least mine did.

I stumbled across your forum while searching for info on my car. Not only am I crawling around my car and replacing things, I am feeling limited with what I can do with my Turbo except for training. It has a track heavy set up so it's not a comfortable road car. I already posted a thread on this. Because I'm at a crossroads, I have just had a spec Miata caged by Planet Miata for spec racing, but I do LOVE this turbo.

Default Welcome

Welcome! I read your question about use for your Turbo Miata.

I personally enjoy hillclimbs. Quite a different challenge to endurance racing, and (where I am at least) the classes are reasonably open and grouped by things like age, engine capacity and drive type. A turbo Miata ends up competing with an interesting mix of sports cars.

Hillclimbs are an adrenaline rush because you have limited attempts at a tight or technical track and need to be ready for a maximum effort attempt without much/any practice. It might take a few years to become competitive at a particular venue.

I’m not sure where you’re located in the NW but this is one is in MI:

Closest hillclimb is likely the one at Reading
Duryea / Pagoda | Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association

@The Australian Did you ever make it down to Ringwood or King Edward Park? Before I moved to Murica I used to run at those - I still am a member of the Newcastle MG club.

@msmola2002 I haven’t been to Ringwood yet. I have in mind to try to go to all the NSW hillclimb rounds one year.

Sadly King Edward Park is no more do to a council re development of the area. It was an incredible spot for an event.
