Noob in paradise!
Well, at the risk of tripping though the gauntlet of verbal abuse on accident (reference posts by: 18psi/y8s/Hustler/fooger03/etc), I'll walk through it intentionally.
Here goes...
I live in "paradise", but I rarely have a lot of free time (occupational pitfall). I'm not new to project cars, but I *AM* new to the technical side of EMS. Nearly a year ago I bought a 1990 NA with a '97 1.8 swap and some sort of coil over frankenstein setup. The guy I bought it from was not very forthcoming with the specs or work done, but it hit all of the check marks for a project car. I only mention this because this f---ing thing is like a jack in the box - no matter how long i play with it, it keeps surprising me (insert sexual reference here).
Given that, I decided to do a little learning. Mad props to the elite and moderators for the info - you guys are masters of your craft! I now have the equivalent of a high school GED on the car.... I think...
Here's what I'm working with:
After the inital purchase, I subscribed to this forum and noticed that if you weren't working with an EMS, you might as well be welding near a gas pump. First purchase was an MSPNP. After, I got lost for weeks in the world of spark, fuel, and volumetric efficiency. From there, I went crazy and bought a Churbo (embarassing, but soon to be replaced, I promise) and all piping (shotgun-buys from a couple friends - also to be replaced), Spearco IC, 16x8 XXRs, GM IAT, and all the other small fixin's... Keep in mind, during the first stages of this build, my 20 y/o Jeep took a sh-t on me. So I had to rush a couple projects to avoid being stranded during my precious time off... Since I have my new vehicle, I'm going back through and unf--king the previous owner's **AWFUL** wiring jobs and MY rushed detailing (mix-matched coupling colors and gratuitous amounts of silicone)...
Future plans are to do a complete bottom to top build of another 1.8 in hopes of learing some new skills and a little more pride in opening up the hood.
Well, gents, I hope I avoided sounding like a complete jerkoff; but being a newb, I doubt you would admit it if I did! As they say, that's the price of admission!
