Default once 300whp MS3 to SR20 S14 and now Miata noob.

ive been trolling the forum here for a few weeks, figured id join.

welp, ive been through a few cars. a year ago i was in the process of building my 2008 MazdaSpeed3. turbo back catless exhaust, KMD internals, Cobb AccessPort, Perm E-tune, RacingHart CP035s, stuff like that. ran 8.4, with 2.2 60', and 79mph trap.

sold it, picked up a S14, dropped in a S13 SR blacktop, typical crap Cosworth HG, Freddy Manifold, XXrs, mismatched paint, ebay FMIC, Walbro pump, impracticaly stiff coilovers that were way too low. very fun car to beat on. ran 8.7 with 195 tires and an open dif spinning through second.

sold the 240 for a nice little profit (fan boys…)
about 4 weeks ago a friend told me about a miata for 1000$ my interests were peaked. i was expecting a complete beater, turns out it was in pretty decent shape. aside from a dent in the rear fender and ****-poor paint job, its great.
120K miles, cold AC.

the speedo doesn't work and the rubber boots over the shifter needed replacing. got the new boots, and shifter bushing. so far i have ripped interior out and pressure washed the carpet and cleaned EVERYTHING in the interior.

the VC was leaking, so i went ahead and sprayed the VC while it was off.

as of today i degreased and sprayed the engine bay, and installed my new wheels and tires. i do plan on going lower, but when i do i plan on installing new sway bars and suspension bushings all at the same time.

tomorrow ill be removing the Charcoal canister and installing the 4 channel amp, which will eventually be wired to my iPhone and the head unit will be deleted for a sweet little double din size gauge/switch location.

the new wheel and tire set up only weighs a pound more on each corner than the stock steelies with 185s. hopefully i can loose a few more lbs when i go with a smaller tire. the wheels weigh 13 lbs each.

originally planned on running 15x9 with 225/45, however my friend was selling these brand new Konig 15x8 +20 Wideopens for 300$ and a some friends who own a local shop gave me brand new tires for 200$ (225/50 15) so for 500$ i can't complain.

future plans: Rb25 T28, FC n/a injectors, Megasquirt2, 6speed, clutch… back to pimp slapping mustangs. because doing it in a minivan wasn't good enough.

i like taking pictures… Nikon D3000 W/ tripod, wide angle lens on the way!

Welcome, where are you from?

Those are indeed some big tires, although we have very few 225/45 options available. None are cheap either.

ill wait till these are worn out and see where I'm at. i plan on these lasting at least a year.

next on the list is coilovers, bushing kit, and sway bars. ill knock it all out at once.

this rain sucks…

finally got a shift bushing installed and drove the car. did a WOT pull and rowed through the gears… it DOES NOT like 3rd gear. flat food shift to 3rd was nothing but grind. very strange, never have a problem with it. high RPM shifts its fine, just doesn't like it so sudden. thats just not going to work with a turbo...

Welcome fellow closet queer!

I really like that body style MS3. The new ones just don't do it for me.

loved the speed3, but roll racing with 12 second cars vs getting skull raped at the drag strip by them sucks, all day, everyday. rear wheel drive it is.

Have you changed the tranny fluid and bled the clutch? They often get neglected and a lot of times clean fluids will really help eliminate grinds. If not, at least your planning on upgrading the tranny anyway.

ha thanks guys. so I'm trying to figure out if my car has the type 2 torsen or not. my s14 had an open dif so i know how that feels, but it also had an extra 100hp over the miata. if i side step the clutch from a dead stop, 2 very dark marks left from both tires at the same time.

some times the car feels like an open dif and other times when carrying a little momentum through a turn and a little whip of the wheel, the *** end will shoot out and it'll stay out like a good old LSD. however, when turning tightly its all 1 tire fire, but if i keep in it, sure enough the *** end will all of a sudden come alive and kick out. the car has never left a single line when going from a dig, always two.

all the LSDs ive messed with were clutch type or in cars with a lot more power on tap. I'm 90% sure ive got an LSD. am i imaging things or is this the characteristics of the Torsen Dif?

well, got my base time in. i know what I'm working with at least.

my best 60ft of the night was a 2.23 only 2 tenths slower 60ft than my 240, and same 60ft as my Speed3. however, both those cars ran low 8s.

after i figured out how to launch the car, i dropped from a 10.5 (first run) to high 9. launching from redline more or less. didn't have a problem hooking with these 225s

my final run of the night, i didn't race the tree and completely devoted my attention to my 1/8th mile time. got me a 9.9 with a 2.23 60ft… and a 2 second reaction time lol

we will see what this RB25DET T28 can do in a couple of months. my work will be reemburing me for some classes i took, that money will be going towards megasquirt. any recommendations for a prebuilt ECU for 4-500$ I'm not too worried about the harness, just the ECU with MAP sensor mod.
