Soon to be Miata owner
Hello all, wanted to introduce myself after lurking for some time now.
I'm selling my 2001.5 Audi S4 and, in a couple weeks, will be picking up a Miata as replacement. I'm a noob to this site and to the Miata scene but not a car noob. My S4 is full Stage 2+ putting down about 280whp, coilovers, 3-piece wheels, etc etc. Below are some pics for the curious.
Since I've been lurking this site, Miata.net, and ClubRoadster, I have a fair bit of background knowledge so I won't be prone to (many) stupid questions. Besides that, I'm a frequent user of the search function.
Anyway, I'll be picking up a white, 2001 LS. I don't necessarily have a power goal, but 300whp would be nice somewhere in the long-term. I plan to start on suspension and driving skills to build my ability to handle more power in such a small car.
I roughly plan on:
- FatCat coilovers
- 6UL's
- R-S3's
- Rollbar
- Other stiffening stuff
- then piecing together a GT28 turbo setup
I think it should be an interesting build of the car, so I might consider some sort of log.

The Audi world stops at Stage 3 but with bigger turbo options coming out (hybrids, RS6's, GT kits, Tial kits) 3+ is becoming more common. Some call those Stage 4 but those people are very very few.
I'd love to go Stage 3 or 3+ but that's stupid expensive. To go Plain Jane Stage 3 on my car would run me $10K. The labor for changing the turbos runs $2K since they're by the frame rails, requiring the engine to be pulled. Then I'd have to get two turbos, fueling, clutch, etc.
Stage 3+ cars run about $20K, especially since the kits are so new and require boat loads of tuning. Sure they can take down P-cars and F-cars, but you still have a 3800lb, unreliable, 8 or 9-year old car.

Thanks!
It should progress pretty quickly since I'll have money left over from the sale of my Audi to get the coilovers, other suspension goodies, and some "look good" mods. The turbo will be a bit slower in coming though.
