Generic '91 from Akron, OH
Hello everyone! I have made a couple comments here and there and bought a couple things off the for sale page. I have decided its finally time to join the meet and greet. My name is Joe and I'm from Akron Ohio. I work as a software engineer on embedded Linux wireless devices.
My Miata is a mile 1991 LNC with A/C + P/S which I bought off the original owner around this time last year. The car had 91k when I bought it and it now has 101k. I drove the car for a full summer before I started modifying it. I wanted to experience it in its stock form before changing anything. Over the winter I have installed a Boss Frog roll bar, a couple racing seats and 5 point harnesses I got dirt cheap, stainless steel brake lines, most importantly a Rev built enhanced MS2 I bought off a forum member here, and a vTPS. I also have a current order from Flyin Miata for their FM 2.5 suspension package. I also just purchased a harness bar off another forum member.
After a couple weeks driving around and tuning on MegaSquirt I'm too the point were I no longer feel required to stare at my wideband gauge. I am happy with my AFRs and general drivability. I am tuned for pump 93 and I havent touched any timing on the car yet. I dont have a good enough understanding of it yet to touch it, and I may not have to until I want to go boosted.
Moving forward I feel I need to do a coolant-reroute because my tempts will reach 230 at WOT, I do not like that and I already have a spacer I bought off a forum member group buy. Has anyone done a reroute with the motor still in the car? Im not looking forward to it. After that I plan to drive the rest of the summer continuing to learn to tune and gain a better understand of MS. Over this summer and next Winter I will slowly start acquiring turbo parts in preparation. Here is my list of to-do's before turbo in order:
Torsen, clutch, injectors(retune), mkturbo group buy(if still available), then sequential injection and COP. Built 1.8 someday.
Im not trying to reinvent the wheel, or do anything groundbreaking. I just want to do whats proven in a simple straightforward way.
Some issues I am still facing. When I step on the throttle my wideband reads lean for a spit second before it gets enough fuel to catch up. I have my AE adjusted 100% to TPS but no matter how I seem to configure it I cant get enough fuel to stop it from reading lean for a split second, and I end up being very rich once it gets caught up. I dont know if its something I have to live with or I just simply need to tune better. Also, I see settings for configuring when the A/C fan should start/stop, do those values only come in to play when A/C is turned on?
Once I get my harness bar I will attach my harnesses to it and then start working on braces for the backs of these aluminum seats.
I am still searching for a simple air filter so I can completely remove the MAF box.
