Default Touch me, touch me now.

Hello.

I am here. In Houston (Cypress/Tomball, to be more or less specific)

I bought a silver '99 Fancy Shift **** Edition, Pictures attached.

75K on odometer. Original timing belt(!) Must change belt ASAP...

Photos attached.

Previous owner (nice older man from Florida, natch) put some header and exhaust (jackson racing? goddamn terrible loud muffler), super-racy ignition wires from same vendor, plus bitchin' K/N intake mess and replaced vacuum hoses with saucy red silicone....

Must immediately change belt, and find a QUIET muffler. quietest possible, if anybody has a suggestion, I'm open.. Like a 7-11....

Will further asess car from maintenance standpoint, address anything that needs attention, then go from there.

Want more power. I intend to buy another block, and build another engine and all supporting shizz while driving the car.. instead of dismantling it and letting it rot in the garage while I screw around debating on the best ignition coils to buy etc...

Other car is an 07 crewcab F250 4x4 powerstroke. 5" exhaust with donaldson 51" muff, SCT programmer running the popular 'looney' script, FICM programmer, gauges, EGR deleted, big stupid ranch hand replacement up front with LED bar.. blah blah.. It pulls trailers and things, takes kids to swim meets and such... Filling the miata tank was a nice departure from $90 and getting 16.5mpg...

I look forward to making this little car my own. I'm already grinning like an idiot with the stock power and suspension, can't wait to dial things in.

This made me laugh.

Decent intro, including pics. Reasonable expectations and plan for getting there. Good grammar and spelling.

Props and welcome.

...I wanted to come somewhat prepared, so I watched some shows about prison man-rape action, some show on logo about gay cowboys leading double lives, and sat down to that cartoon with my daughter and tried to understand what the hell the deal was with ponies. I saw this in the dining room, and knew it was time to do an intro...

Go to clubroadster or similar local ricer community and offer to trade your exhaust for a stock one + cash. Someone will pay you to make your exhaust quieter, you just have to find them.

Welcome! Car looks great, and seems like you have some decent plans. And, if those wheels are the real deal, at least it came with some good ones!

Hey, this is not a bad idea, I was thinking that I'd just replace the muffler right now, unless the header and larger stainless exhaust does not net any appreciable gain...

It sounds super ricey at the moment... Some kid (or older reprobate) will think it sounds incredible...

Again with the quietness- I was getting an obnoxious drone in the cab especially when I had some weight behind the truck.. This muff is pretty much the upright section of an 18 wheeler exhaust stack, only it's underneath on mine... ..Because exhaust stacks on diesel trucks are 10x gayer than miatas could ever hope to be. So all you hear is sweet turbo whistle, and not the BWWAAAAAAHHHHHH when you're tooling down the interstate at 75...

Header and larger exhaust does not net any appreciable gain.*

*compared to turbo.

If you're gonna choke it up with a stock or super restrictive muffler (pretty much mandatory for n/a cause its way louder than turbo) you might as well go back to stock completely.

Welcome to the site.

I'm not one to spend money i don't have to, and if you're like me and can live with spec miata exhaust for a little while you should. It may get real quiet once you put a turbo in front of it.

TL : DR
Turbo your car already.

After driving this thing about 1000 miles in a week or two (two trips from Houston to Houma and back) I've decided to pull this exhaust and set it aside, and run the stocker for the time being... when I find a stock exhaust.

I'm manly as hell, but dear god, the drone from that little ****** is terrible... I am hoping that, as pointed out , when turbo goes on noise will abate... I'd like to see if I can keep some of this exhaust with the turbo goods- it looks to be nicely built and is supposed to be 2.5"... I'm not looking for the ragged edge of this engine's ability, so maybe that won't be an issue.

I'd like to put turbo on car right away, but I can't see that happening any time soon- I wanna build another engine... At least I think I do. I've been looking at build after build and everybody's stock engine setups, and I keep getting confusing feelings of arousal and disgust.

The wheels on here are 'kosei' brand, and they look nice and light. Unfortunately they are 14"... Looks like the size du jour 'round here is 15" but I think they'll do for the time being.

This being the noob section (a protected sanctuary for idiocy, plus the search kinda sucks ***.. must learn to filter results better), I've a question I want to ask that I cannot seem to find a good answer for- RE: donor engine blocks- Are any of the donors (escort GT,Kia? which kia? protege, ??) set up as the early 1.8 miata blocks and have the Convenient Oil Port for trubo?

This car is really solid. I want to start moving things along.

PS you wanna see a picture of my cat? I have two- One's Bella, and the other is Russell. I have a good photo of Russel furiously licking his *** on my daughter's phone, I'll post it up when I get back on shore. On a side note, Russel just got kicked the **** out of the house because he won't stop pissing on my brand new carpet. I love him but he is a little bastard.

Turbo will make it quieter!

You might want to check out the racing beat 2.25" muffler setup. Sounds very nice.
Or maybe you could stick a stock muffler on there for a while until youre boosted.

Re:exhaust. I'd trade it for a stocker + cash if you can, 3" turbo-back isn't just for the ragged edge of power, it will improve spool at any power level.

re:searching, I google 'site:miataturbo.net <search term here>'

In Chrome I have this set up so whenever I press 'm' followed by a space, it searches that. If you have chrome, right click on the address bar->edit search engines. Scroll to the bottom, make your search term 'm' (or whatever you want) and enter this in the rightmost box: https://www.google.com/search?q=site:miataturbo.net+%s
