Default Track Day Noob from Bay Area California

Hey everyone,

I figured I would get my noob post out of the way after reading for a few months. I live in the east bay of northern California and I just bought my second miata about 2 months ago. A Black 94 B package with 86,000 miles, pretty much stock, it has a roll bar, no ac, and I swapped to 15 inch wheels. My other miata is a 99 federal version with 116k miles, 4.3 torsen, rocker rust, and lots of dents.

My plans for the short term are to get a seat and helmet and head to the track / autocross a few times this year in my 94. Beyond the short term goals, I plan on following the sticky by Shuiend; get megasquirt + wide band and learning how to tune. After I am comfortable with all that, I will be looking to get a turbo kit or DIY. I am torn between the mkturbo kit for simplicity or the FM C.A.R.B. legal kit because of the state I live in. Albeit, if I did go with the FM kit, I would still be upgrading injectors and running MS. I don't mind having to remove all the turbo parts to pass smog every other year, but this is said without having installed one before.

It will be my first time really delving into tuning. My experience has been just the standard car maintenance stuff, brakes, oil, coolant, and fixing obd2 codes. This would be my first ever turbo car and serious car project that isn't more than cosmetic stuff. I think the most in depth wrenching I've done was replacing all intake side gaskets on the 99.

I plan on using the 99 engine to rebuild if I can't sell the car running, but to be honest, I haven't really tried much. I want to keep a rebuild simple with machine work and necessary forged internals to support a turbo build.

Not really sure what sort of power goals I am looking for, I just want more pep to the miata, but still be able to daily and track it. I would like to be able to overtake mini vans on the freeway without a struggle.
Somewhere in this mix, I plan on getting supporting mods such as upgrading suspension, clutch, getting a 6 speed, and 3.9 or 3.6 torsen.

Planning on lurking around here, reading more, posting less, and learning how to drive on a track.

94 miata b package, seller kept the bbs wheels which were 14 inch.
