Default 1990 Miata Ignition Problem

Hi,

I have been running the fuel off my MSII, running MS2 Extra 2.1 firmware, for a while now. But I am having trouble setting up the ignition. I have followed the instructions on http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms2extra/MS2-Extra_4g63.htm and currently have it set up so that I can flick a switch to change the sparking from the stock ECU to the Megasquirt. However the car will not run off the Megasquirt.

I just did a test and found that it is firing, but it is obviously way out of time, unless there is another reason it might not start, and I don't want to play with it and damage something.

Could someone tell me what ignition settings I should need. Or upload a map which works for the MS2 Extra 2.1 firmware so I can compare settings?

I was trying to check the timing of the megasquirt by cranking it without fuel and using a timing light, but the light won't fire regularly, even though it is sparking regularly. I tried with the stock ecu doing the timing and the same problem. It will work when the engine is running but then it doesn't run when the megasquirt is controlling the timing.

Is there a way I can check the timing of the megasquirt in this situation?

I thought of connecting some sort of timing light directly to the output of the megasquirt while the car is running off the standard ECU so I can see the difference in timing, but I don't know how to do that.

Your spark outputs are flipped, swop the leads between the two coilpacks.

You mean in the megasquirt? I would have thought that it would be easy to do that in the settings but I will give it a try.

Thank you very much for you advice, I just switched the wires over and it started perfectly!
