Default 1997 MSPNP2 Running Rich

Hello, sorry for the long post, I'm going to try to be as transparent as possible. I bought a DIY MSPNP2 brand new and can't seem to get it to idle above 10 AFR. Getting it to idle correctly is the first step before driving the car, so this is all I'm concerned with. The car is completely stock and runs flawlessly on the mazda ecu. I have previously owned and installed a DIYPNP2 on a 90 miata; it ran and turboed just fine/all the functions worked as expected, so I am familiar with the ecu and TS. I'm running the 96-97 3.3.1 base tune from DIYs website on the MS2/Extra 3.4.2 firmware. I have played with the req. fuel, the VE tables, the injector dead time, and verified all general settings and calibrations. Lowering the req. fuel makes the engine run better, as it chugs and tries to die at the recommended (11.9) req. fuel. Changing the values in the VE table does not have any impact on AFR, same with the idle dead time. The car runs so rich that it spits liquid fuel out of the muffler, which is pretty entertaining. I have been in contact with Matt at DIY since June and haven't been able to figure this out with him, so I'm asking any of you to please chime in and help me.
Thanks in advance for any help.
