Default 97 fan control

I can't find a thread on this and I can't figure out the wire on the wiring diagrams.

1. Which wire on a 96-97 on the stock wiring harness controls the rad/AC fans? It looks like it's 1A but I want to be sure before I go tearing stuff up.
2. to get the fans to turn on, do i splice those wires to ground?
3. Do I just splice the megasquirt fan I/O wire into the particular wire on the wiring harness?
4. If i decide not to do that and wire it up to a flip switch, is that possible?

Thanks for the info in advance

are you doing a parallel install?
did you do the fan mod on your MS? if not it's not gonna control the fans.

I believe it's 1A.

1A turns on the main fan, 1B turns on the A/C fan. Provide a closure to ground to activate. If you wish, you may splice both wires together into the MS's fan relay driver.

If you wish, you may install a toggle switch to close the wire(s) to ground. I have my own car set this way- if I find that I'm suddenly coming upon a traffic jam, I flip the fans on preemptively.

This is covered in the Great A/C FAQ: https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/sho...d.php?p=256739

I have the fan control mod. From the information you guys are giving me, I'm going to splice both together and use the fan control wire from the MS to control them, but also wire it to a override switch.

also, just a stupid question about rad/ac fans:
How much do the fans do when you're actually moving? Do they do anything in comparison to the air hitting it at 30mph for example?
