Default 97 turbo ms1ns issues

hello, i have built a ms1 v3.0 board with the braineack tutorial(thank you for guidance). however i have ran into a slight snag in the install process. i am getting no spark, and the LED's on the MS are not lighting as well during cranking(they do have 5 volts though?) and i have discovered that the stock mitsu igniter is non functional( i tried it on another miata:( ) the car has a pair of Gm coil packs from the previous owner, i think i have them wired correct( switched 12v into one side of the coil and apply ground to the other terminal gets spark..weak...but its spark.

a little background....

Car had a Halktek E6k installed on it with "custom turbo system" , never did run quite right and got around 6 mpg in the city. i heard of the megasquirt via GRM, and here we are.

the wiring is pretty hacked up, so wired everything new to the relay board, just to start fresh. No AC, aftermarket fans(w/ controller)

thank you to anyone that can help me, my faith is strong in the MS

it

Did you flash the firmware onto the megasquirt with the coils still connected? If you are getting weak spark you probably blew ur coils out.

As for the lights not going on, well that could be incorrectly flashed firmware as well.

+1 Reload your firmware and MSQ and report back.

If your LEDS are installed backwards they won't light up...

Short leg side of the diode? positive should be the long leg of an LED.

i now have spark, thankyou to all that responded.

new problem, no fuel.....i show 12 volts on the injector wire in respect to ground but nothing when cranking on the other injector wire.

does anyone know what transistors run the injectors, so i can double check the board.

in addition the fuel pump does not run when wired correctly, i checked the fuel pump operation by applying 12 v and it does work.

i checked the fuse on the relay board, just fine.....

thank you for the continued help

I think you have to jump the fuel pump in the diag box, or else the MS wont enable it.

a 97 doesn't need to jump the F/P. Simply running the F/P ground wire to 2T should do it.

if no RPM signal, no fuel.

i do have a rpm signal, when cranking it shows up anywhere 100 to 300 rpm, with the leds alternating on and off.

what do you mean by 2T? on the diagnostic connector?

thank you, but i have found that the pump is working when i power it off 12v. it just will not work when hooked up to the appropriate spot on the relay board.

I'm slightly unclear on this statement, specifically the difference between "the injector wire" and "the other injector wire". Are you saying that you see +12 on the white/red wire that feeds the injectors, or that you see +12 on the wires (Y, Y/B, G, G/W) between the injector and the MS?

I think that the schematic for the 3.57 uses the same component numbers as the 3.0, so you'd be looking at page 4 of the schematic. Q1 is the primary driver for channel A, with Q14 / R37 acting as the overcurrent safety. Q5 is the driver for channel B, with Q15 / R38 acting as the overcurrent protection.

The factory ecu harness gives the FP 12v. To turn it on, we trigger the ground at 2T through the provided standard output on MS. It couldn't be easier.

thanks for the info joe, i had to run all new wiring in this car, so original wire colors are out the window. i had ran all new wiring to the injectors, 2 for bank one and 2 for bank two, and four common 12v to the relay board. as i understood, the MS modulates the ground channels to operate the injectors. which made sense considering how the relay board was laid out. How i tested them, i checked the 12v inj on the relay board to chassis ground and saw 12vdc. when i checked the inj1 and inj2 wiring i showed no change when cranking or at rest.

thank you for your help,
Jamie....
