Can't leave well enough alone, or can I?
Okay, I have been really happy with my MS-II runnind Extra 2.0.1 and using Megatune 2.25 p3
I am using all 1993 sensors but have a '99 motor and thus a stock '99 trigger wheel and sensor I could use if I wanted to.
I am currently running COPS in wasted spark.
I am attaching a pinout of my MS-II *note that pins 3 and 4 for flexfuel and knock are not currently being used, although I to have a Knocksense MS that I just haven't got working correctly yet.
I am also attaching a .msq that will undoubtedly cause your motor to blow up if you try to use it (there you were warned)
My accel enrichment is way off, I am just starting on it.
So the question is, what features am I missing out on at my current build level?
Things I would like to explore:
Accel enrichment
launch control
flat shift
traction control of some sort
Are there benefits I am missing by not having the trigger wheel on the crank? Anything else I should be looking at?
okay i am out of attachment room how do i delete the old ones?

That is sort of the information I am looking for.
I know the version I have has everything but traction control ( i keep trying to get someone to buy into the rate of acceleration model but no takers yet )
I guess to try and be a bit clearer, I am not unhappy with anything about my current setup. I just want to make sure that I am not leaving something on the table by not upgrading at least the firmware. I also don't want to loose any of the dynowork I have done getting to where I am, so I want to make sure that my current .msq will still behave in the same manner afterwards. If things are more robust or easier to tune with the later versions I am all for it. Same goes for the crank trigger wheel, I don't know that I need it, but since I have it, I am wondering if I should use it.
Tunerstudio looks cool too, but Megatune works for me and I sort of understand how to make it do what I want.
Short version is "It ain't broke (that I know of), so why fix it?"

Probably any firmware version other than what you're running will mess up your dyno work at one level or another... even small-seaming tweaks like the map sampling code. Crank triggering would definitely be good, definitely increases spark accuracy, the timing belt introduces a couple of degrees of 'slop'. There really isn't any working traction control code for ms2 or ms3 yet... best we can hope for is that the ms3 code gets back ported when they start working on it sometime after ms3 1.0 comes out.
Also, tunerstudio rules, and you have to have it to run 3.0.3 code (tho the latest version supposedly was updated to work with MT? haven't tried) VE analyze live is total win, but again... you'd be 'losing' your dyno work.

If you could somehow derive gear selection, you could compare VSS versus RPM. I am just trying to avoid adding wheel sensors, but if I go ABS that might not be as big a deal.
*Threadjacking my own thread
One of the abs systems I looked at compared wheel speed to gps speed and would apply the brakes to make the two "match". I suppose you could input a gps speed signal and do the same comparison with the VSS and achieve the same type of control

notice gear detection method vss/rpm

Post lunch, I realize that VSS drives off the transmission, which will report what gear I am spinning the tires in. I really need the gps input of vehicle speed to compare that with to determine if I have broken traction. doh!
Back to our regulary scheduled should I upgrade the firmware and install the crank sensor discussion. I assume that was a tunerstudio screen shot?

upgrading to the 99 sensors is pretty straight forward
frank's writeup is helpful: http://westfieldmx5.devocht.com/index.php?section=35

I have CMP (the CAS inner wheel signal) on that input. Does the crank wheel replace that signal? If so, do I just need to change the wheel definition?

If you switch to NB type trigger wheels, you will need to run both the NB crank and cam wheels. CMP is always input to processor pin JS10 on a MS2. As far as the MS2 software is concerned, yes all you do is change the trigger wheel definition to 99-00 Miata and set base timing.

Sorry for being a little slow on the uptake.
If I go with the '99-00 crank trigger, I then have to use the '99-00 cam wheel? No way I can use the earlier CAS I have on the car now? Time to go digging through my stuff and see if I still have the pigtail for the '99 cam sensor. The sensor is still in place to cover the hole in the valve cover.
