Default fried MS chip.. launch control

i think i fried my MS1 chip....

I have MSnS_extra on a v3.0 board... knock control was hooked up and working and i went to hook up launch control... well it worked for a second...literaly... then it stopped showing up.... AND now megasquirt thinks the engine is knocking (even though ik its a false reading... my LED isnt goin off).... AND worst of all, it smells like burning plastic. I pulled out the megasquirt and saw burnt plastic around about pin 12 on the MS1 chip

I hooked up launch control by simply providing an active low directly to JS11.... after reviewing the manual again i see this...

I didnt build this circuit... is that what caused it to burn up? is my chip fried to the point of no return?

P.S.... to add to my stupidity/ bad luck while taking out the megasquirt i noticed a big buldge in my dryrotted front tire ...****

I have my clutch switch hooked directly to the board. Been running it like that for a few months. So do a few other people.
Not sure why it would fry it like that unless you accidently hooked it up to a 12v wire.

No. Bad luck is noticing while going through a turn at a high rate speed when it explodes. That was definitely good luck.

i pulled out the continuity tester.... i have js11 (launch) jumped to SPR1 which should be pin3... no continuity

i have knock hooked up to SPR2 which is pin 4... worked fine as of yesterday... i have a datalog to prove it.

So... did i fry the board or something? why am i getting no continuity now?

Not sure why you aren't getting continuity. You could have burned the trace in the board, not likely but it's possible i suppose.
Change it all to SPR3 and see what happens.

oh this day is never gunna end... jsut went to go put it back in the car to see if the chip is fried and i realized a solder point broke on the ignition mod... but it doesnt matter because the "knocked" icon was still highlited in megatune meaning my life blows and the chip is fried

Edit:

Ok i fixed the spark, the car started fine BUT it still shows up as knocking. id like to keep the knock retard feature...so i guess im gunna buy a new chip?

I've got a 95 and wired mine up like this to an extra DB15 connector I added. When I plug in the DB15 to Megasquirt the launch indicator on Megatune lights up that its 2step output is enabled.. Clutch up or down... Yet the safety start switch works. What gives?

Tested it on stimulator by grounding that pin, the light comes on like its supposed to.

neutral safety switch is on the same circuit... try putting it in gear and see if that turns it off

i wanted a clutch switch starter bypass so what i did was jumped the connector under the dash, then connected that to 1 prong on the switch (because it is grounded) and MS to the other prong... this makes it so i dont have to have the car started and the switch is just for megasquirt

Hadn't tried putting it in a gear position yet.. I didn't think the manual actually had a Neutral switch..

it does if you had P/S. i believe Jerry was talking about snipping the wires for the neutral switch.

Odd. Sounds like I need to put an arming switch on that so it's not always going into launch with the clutch in..

i fried my second chip today. I got it from DIY today and burned the firmware on the chip... tested it with the stim and it all looked good, no signs of an issue...

i plugged it into the car and got a knock signal from knocksenseMS and no wideband reading (they share the same power source)... so i disconnected the knocksense and got the wideband working. I even went as far as hooking back up launch control and testing it... all worked beutifully (with knocksense disconnected)...

then i shut my car off for a while, turned it back on and i had the same problems... both launch and knock were perminantly showing up on megatune.

The pins have continuity to the correct place BUT they are getting a low voltage reading which isnt normal... like .1v or so

Going on to investigate i found out that the power source to my wideband and knocksense was bad and the power was cutting in and out (bad butt connection).... could that be the cause of the problem?? i cant think of what else. everything is the same and the launch control switch is functioning fine

This is my second chip and i cant afford to keep replacing them..sorry for the long rant

Do the knock and launch lights come on when on the Stim? Normally you should have a 5 volt signal on the launch line which the clutch switch would pull to ground. This may need some Stim testing.

matt i have replied to the email you sent me...

But to keep every1 else updated...

The stim has R4 moddified to work with the miata mods... and i set megatune to "stim for wheel"

The board worked perfectly when i tested it on the stim directly after i downloaded the firmware, but after the chip fried in the car it shows errors even on the stim. Because the problem gets solved...atleast temperarily.. when i install a new chip i would think that the board is fine, but idk what im talking about.

its fucked again... it worked fine most of the day... now the launch control pin has 1.4v on it normally (should be 5)... and launch control isnt activated even when its pulled to ground
