Default 1.6 cold start

anyone have cold start nailed for a 1.6? i'm going to try the 1.8 settings from some of you tomorrow morning, but if someone had 1.6's to share, that'd be awesome. car wouldn't start this morning at about 50deg F.

if nobody has them, i will eventually :-)

Sweet, I have been thinking about starting a thread about this. I moved from Michigan to Texas before I took on MS. I have been super busy lately, so I haven't touched MT for months, but it's been pretty much 100 degrees since we got down here in June so I haven't had to worry about cold start tuning! When I have started the car at around 70, it won't quite keep running without a little help from my foot. Devin, can you let me know what you find when you get yours pretty close? I've still got a month or two before it gets real cold here in the mornings!

hmm. no dice this morning. the 40F and 60F were both the same as in your table, miatamath. nothing. so i bumped them both up by 1. still nothing. maybe they want to be leaner... oh well.. another shot tomorrow morning, i imagine.

If it doens't keep running when cold, bump up the ASE and/or warmup value.

Any update on this? After installing my Wideband LC1, i have been having trouble getting the car started unless its warm out (80* F and up) likely more due to the colder temps that I didnt have until recently. I have messed with the cranking settings and my spark is set to 14* at all cranking areas which might be a bit much for that low of rpm, but it had the same issue at 10*.

I am most curious to understand what factors affect cranking settings.

1. The settings ask for a specific duty cycle and based on that i am guessing that the VE map is not used until it fires up?

2. I have used the miatamath base settings for cranking (13ms fuel req 1.2 inj opening by the way) and still no dice when cold. Should I try richer or leaner and in what increments?

I have found that the maximum of 25.5ms for priming is not sufficient to start my '02 without dying 1 sec after starting. Afterstart enrichments didn't help. I usually need to turn the key to IGN two or three times so as to prime with two or three priming pulses. Then and only then it doesn't stall. This is when the coolant is usually below 50C.

So we had a cold snap in Texas, (it's way down to the 40's!) and I am waiting for the buyer to come and pick up the car :( and I finally decided to fix this cold start issue. I used the tables in this thread and went in to find out that my Priming PW source was not even set to From Table. Made the other changes recommended and it fired right up first try. Do you ever finally have time to do something and wonder why you didn't make time for it before because it was so easy! I set up my spare V2.2 board for fuel and spark and sold it to a guy with another 1990 last night. I recovered all my MS costs and had a BLAST doing it! Thanks to everyone for their help!
