Default A/C not working, did I fry something?

So, I had tried to connect the AC fan and Cooling fan wires together at the ECU harness per a mod I found on another site to have a dual fan setup, and when I did that, the AC compressor also came on with them. I undid that connection, and have now wired in a relay to turn the AC fan on with the cooling fan, but should retain the AC function as well (5 pin relay). Now I have a problem with the AC. It does not work. Neither the compressor or fan come on when the AC is turned on. I have checked relays/fuses, no problems. Did I fry the controller in the megasquirt? Any way I can test it? I have a MSPNP1.

Thanks,

Jason

Anyone? I did not build my MS, so I am not familiar with the inner workings to test the circuit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I could be wrong here as im very new to megasquirts as mine only just got installed and have not had the proper time to read through everything, but it is my understanding that not all megasquirt models have the ability to control AC. Could you post which model you have? Ill have a look later into that specific MS model and see where the fault may be.

how exactly did you wire the fans together? how exactly did you wire the stupid relay? did you reset the a/c breaker?

sounds like you dont know how to eletrical...

just because they dont have the ability to control the a/c, it doesnt mean you can't use the a/c. but go ahead and look into it...

AC worked prior to splicing the wires.

First mod was jumping the cooling fan trigger and ac fan trigger in the harness by the ecu plug.

Current mod is the Ben 91 mod found here on the site (when relay is not activated, ac fan relay controls ac fan, when activated by cooling fan trigger, ac fan comes on with regular fan). What is leaning me towards the ecu or switch is that the compressor is not kicking in now either.

What ac breaker are you talking about? I checked relays/fuses.

Thanks,

Jason

what year miata do you have?

why do you feel the need to wire your a/c fan with the cooling fan? are you overheating? if so, then fix your overheating issues.

1996.

I have a koyo radiator and reroute, but it still gets warm on a hot day. Wanted to add the second for extra insurance.

Thanks,

Jason

there's no reason you need to tie them together. but I'd go back in and look at your wiring, sounds like it's messed up and preventing activation I'm assuming it's the relay.

but there is a breaker in the fuse panel under the dash. large black one with a red button in the middle.

do you windshield wipers still work?

Wipers still work.

I'll check the breaker tonight, and if that's not it, I'll remove the relay and see if that works.

Thanks,

Jason

Got stuck at work late last night, so I didn't have a chance to look at it. One thing I did think about is the pressure switch. Since the compressor was constantly running, I am wondering if it over-pressurized the system, and blew out the refrigerant to the point that there is not enough pressure for it to activate. I'm going to try to jump the switch as well, and see if the compressor kicks on.

More to come.

When I tied the cooling fan trigger and ac fan trigger together, the compressor also kicked on and stayed on with the fans, although the ac was not turned on.

I'll first check the breaker, then the pressure switch.

Thanks,

Jason

I believe I have solved the problem. The AC fan issue is the relay I bought. I thought it was a spdt no/nc relay with 5 pins, but as it turns out, instead of having 87 and 87a pins, it is two 87s, and no 87a, so it was not connecting properly when not activated. New relay ordered to solve the issue.

In regards to the ac compressor not cycling, that was a dumbass moment on my part. I forgot that I disconnected the wire to the compressor when it was stuck on before to avoid f'ing things up (the problem with going a few weeks between messing with things). Cycles fine now.

All is well now, thanks for the input. ON to the next project.
