By your command.
9psi=wastegate 12psi and 14psi are what I'm trying to get with EBC... but not making it... not a big deal, just need to up the values in Boost table. |

ok, if you look at your log you can see the ACCEL:N button, it goes Y when its fucking up, so your accel enrichments ARE kicking in. you need to play with them. in the least disable it to test, turn teh threshold to 255kPa.

I don't like the idea of sharing a MAP signal line with any other device.

sharing the map signal hose isn't going to cause noise like that. I run mine teed off like 3 different things and it's fine.
Sam, check your MAP line and make sure it's not pinched or vibrating against anything. it may be resonating between 3500-4500. If it's free to wiggle a lot, it could spike the pressure. to rule it out, get another piece of vac line and run it out the window under the back of the hood. |
Did I mention I think this thread is awesome.
I also dont understand why hi res code would create a timing table such as pauls. I mean 30 degrees of advance in boost all due to code? How is that possible? |

One of the biggest changes you can make to a turbo car to lower IATs is to setup a Cold Air Intake system. If you are sucking up hot air from under the hood, you are giving up a lot in terms of power and detonation control. It doesn't matter how big or efficient the intercooler is...I can't stress it enough, if you don't have cold air system you are shorting yourself!

Y8's, I'll doublecheck the MAP line and make sure it's free and clear.

I searched for exactly what ACCEL Enrichments are and don't exactly understand what it does or when/why it engages. What might cause it to "kick in"? There are 3 pages in "BasicSettings" in Megatune: Accel Decel Mode- shown Acceleration Wizard- shown RPM Based Accel- just says "Normal AE*^" in the first block. I can't tell how I set the "threshold" unless it's "MAPdot Threshold". I assume setting the threshold means the ACCEL (whatever it does) won't kick in under it, so I set it for 18psi (kpa whatever) and it'll never hit. But it's obviously designed to do something. Educate me. |
When you have accleration enrichments turned off you suffer from a lean tip in. That lean tip in is a lean spike as air rushes into the motor and the injectors don't keep up I assume. Acceleration enrichment is designed to correct that by squirting extra fuel in to keep throttle response as quick as it should be.
You currently have MS setup for MAPdot AE with a threshold of 80 kpa. That means, when you stab the throttle or roll into it hard it will inject once you reach 80 kpa based on the "Rate (kpa/s)" and "Value (m/s) that you have established above. Basically if you accelerate 90 kpa/s its going to inject an extra .5 m/s of fuel to cure the lean spike. AE tuning takes a little time but it's really easy to just set it up to where its close enough and call it a day. I adjust it to where it feels good and throttle response is awesome enough for my liking. There are technical ways to do it with datalogs and whatnot but I couldn't care less. If it dumps in too much fuel, then pull some out. To disable AE, set the threshold to 300 kpa and it won't activate. |
Check out this thread for accel enrichment info. Those settings are working for me and should be close for you I would think since you are also using 550cc injectors.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a linear TPS, thus he can't use those settings. 89-93 didn't have them from the factory unless they were an automatic. Or something like that anyway. All 1.8s have a linear TPS. Not sure if Sam installed a linear TPS or not.

Sam, get a variable TPS. It is so worth it for so many things (boost control, LC/FS, etc)
Speaking of which, anyone have any ideas for me on this one? The car is an otherwise-stock 1.6, MSPNP running Jerry's 1.6 basemap with VariTPS running an automatic TB. Looks like the TPS is freaking the fuck out to me. |

So, first I'll turn it off and do some datalogging... but I assume I don't want to leave it off permanently as there is potential for lean-spikes at tip-in. I assume that even though there's only 4 values for the table that it's still linear? Since I only see 200kpa, I can probably lower the upper value from 300 down to about 220 to get some better resolution. I'll lower the values by .5 at a time and datalog... we'll see how it works.
And I'll start looking for a variTPS. |

You can see here that mine is turned off... I have experienced no noticable drivability issues. It does go a little lean on tip in, but the car doesn't seem to car any.

Here is my before and after messing with the ACCEL ENRICHMENTS.
You can see the boxed-yellow is the same area of 3500-4500rpm. The graphs are at different scales to get the best picture to show you. My first run I just lowered the top block from 300kpa to 225kpa and lowered each value by 1.0. It didn't help. Then lowered it some more... then some more. The results are good. The accel was just adding WAY TO MUCH fuel. Now it's not. Now it's good. Now I'm happy. I owe everybody a round. |
Sam. Its kind of weird that you're using the "O2" field. You should be use the WB "AFR(WB02)" unless you like reading that weird voltage value. Just go up to calculated fields and set the WB to LC1 linear or w/e you're using these days.
Arkmage, i drove without the AE turned on for a year and never cared about it because like you said the drivability is no big deal without it. Until I finally adjust the AE settings and left it turned on. It's ridiculous how much better the throttle response it with AE turned on. That little lean spike hesitation make a huge difference in the ability of your car to rev quickly. Mess with it in your driveway, adjust it until its not overly rich, i guarantee it will be the best 10 minutes you spend on a lazy sunday concerning your car. |
just FWIW, paul's timing map caused a lot of ping between 3-5K on Lars' setup. We decided something like y8s where you gradually increase timing with RPMs would be more ideal.

anyone hear any ping over my exhaust while i was on the dyno? anyone got video? |
