I heard it once i had my head over the engine bay and not inside the cabin.

Lars, get that exhaust soon, because ill wanna take mine to a steady state within a few weeks :) then we can cure your torque drop issues ;)

I know a bunch of people have had trouble, but I got my Knocksense dialed in with an extra potentiometer (thanks Chad) to give me a bunch of control over its sensitivity, and it's on the money. Every time I see that light go on, the little marbles start rattling at the same time, and if the light is off, I can't ever hear anything.

This week I am going to use the dipstick-in-plug #1 trick to check and see whether my crank pulley timing mark is way off or something. I'll report back.

What what what? Explain this please! I was just going to try the hybrid map myself (though with CA 91 I'm not sure what to do), and my knocksense is my limitation. I'd love to know how to tune it better. There's 1 pot in it, is that what you're talkingabout?

Please explain in detail!!

And if anyone has an idea on timing (I'm thinking 2 degrees timing out everywhere save for the bottom two rows) please let me know!!

Abe, you install the 10k ohm pot in the knock sensor line going to the knocksense. This allows you more adjustment with the knocksense. Most the time the knocksense picks up to many little engine noises to be useful. The extra pot allows you to adjust that sensitivity out.
If you look at the instructions that came with the knock sense it will tell you more about it.

Thanx all for the maps!
I tried hybrid map and the diference is amazing.
First off all, smoooooth. from 2000 RPM to red line is a lot better than the MSPnP table. In hard acelerations and cruise very good.
Second. my buttometer feel the car much faster. I donīt hear any ping or something strange.

I'm just waiting for the "why is my motor making funny noises and spewing smoke?" thread

well shoot, i sold mine because it always heard too much noise....

So this is another potentiometer in addition to the one already on the circuit board? If so, I suppose one becomes a coarse gain adjuster and one becomes a fine gain adjuster? I don't remember seeing this in the instructions but I'll look again. At any rate it would be nice to have another pot that can be remotely mounted for easier adjustment access. Thanks Chad.

hehehe.

It is working and proved for others miatas, why not me?.
Why all of us put a turbo in a N/A car? is not safety .!
I already have 0.7 Bar and I don't have planed to put much more presure.
Also I have a very conservative AFR at boost (10.5). Why it should be a problem for my engine?

Braineack 04-08-2008 11:10 AM

its been my experience that 10.5:1 AFR is pretty harmful.

Splitime 04-08-2008 11:51 AM

Crap, so many different starting points for Spark maps... what to use what to use....

<-- must get this basemap ready... so I actually get my ass out and tuning.

If the increased quantity of fuel is great enough, it can "wash" the film of oil from the cylinder walls, prior to ignition. This leaves ring-to-cylinder metal on metal. The other byproduct of fuel washing past the piston rings is that the fuel gets into the oil. Fuel is a horrible lubricant, does not protect surfaces well at all.

Plenty of members here running FMUs and high boost have blown motors without knock. I blame most of it on the fact that we ran over 11:1 for long periods of time.

cjernigan 04-08-2008 12:28 PM

Do not use a 10k ohm pot for this mod. Follow these directions, straight from Boris himself.

Steering the thread back onto course (I think) it occured to me that I don't think I've actually seen a map of FM's timing settings for the link in a manner that's easily comprehensible. So I made one.

Attached is an XL file that I created using FM's "1.6, 440cc, Turbo" link defaults. I started with the specific RPM/MAP datapoints that they provided and performed a linear interpolation between those cells at increments of 10kPa and 100 RPM. This way you can easily find out what the equivalents value would be for cells that fall between stated values.

Some might call it a conservative map, but it looks pretty ordinary to me. This morning, for instance, I finally got some ping out of my engine at 183 kPa at about 5,500 RPM. My advance at the time was 18° and while this is on 91 octane, it's also with water injection.

I never heard it, but the KnockSenseMS picked it up.

Braineack 04-08-2008 03:27 PM

I've already done that years ago :)

I've been able to add 4* across the entire FM map with out any significant increase in ping. Only saw ping once my I/C had heat soaked during autocross.

You utter ass. :D

Wait until someone kills an hour of hard work and then reveal that it's been done...

I'll make it up to you with a pirate duck:

also, fwiw, the old thread "settings" that was a sticky had the same map posted for a really long time too :)

For some reason I want that duck made into a sticker and put on my car.
