Default Finished BMW TPS MOD - confused

Everything I've read says the 5V comes from the red wire on the factory harness and goes to pin one of the BMW TPS. So given the red wire is shown here:

I connected it to pin one of the TPS. I then connected the black to pin 2 and the turquoise to pin 3.

Well when I went to calibrate my WOT reading was 38 while my no throttle was 222. So I switched the red and black on the TPS and got the numbers correct.

What am I missing here? Just surprised to see the bad info.

I was just surprised to find so many post with the same wrong information. Which brings to mind these quotes

"don't believe everything you read" & "trust but verify"

I did document the entire process on my site.

Thanks I didn't see that on my many searches. It is one reason why I decided to document the entire process step by step to get all the information in one place and so there would be no question on what I did.

Ok I know this is an old thread sorry. I have been having problems with my tps and want to verify the wiring before I resolder everthing to get the noise out of the signal.

what is the order of the pins on the bmw plug. I dont have the pig tails so

Is 1 at the top then 2 then 3 so on clockwise.

I have read many post and some mention others where wrong. what is the correct 1.6 harness to bmw vtps connection.

In this post there is great pic of wiring to the pins on the bmw tps what type of connection metiod is that. I tried female connector but they keep coming lose and I want am more reliable solution. Can i solder the wre directly to tps or what type of connection fitting should I look for?

I think i referenced this when hooking up my TPS:

I had the pigtail, and soldered the leads ... You can probably get away with soldering directly to the pins as well.

I referenced those instructions too but the values are both showing "0" during calibration for closed and wide open throttle.

Does it make a difference whether I solder or crimp the wires etc?

Really stuck with this I can't see where I've gone wrong.

I also have a 4 pin tps and throttle body from an automatic mx5 if someone has a how to instruction on that?

Check the voltage coming from the sensor at closed and wide open throttle - what do you find?

It's alright, I rushed through the instructions out of excitement and didnt put the J5 jumper in place. All working fine once I did that but I did have to switch those 2 wires round as mentioned above to prevent getting backward readings

Since I couldn't find such a photo, here is how I wired the BMW 0-280-120-406 TPS/VTPS (using the advice here)

This calibrated in Tuner Studio without a problem. I hope it helps!

Not going to leave it like this though!

So confused... I'm getting backwards reading but mine is wired the same as above ^. What wires should I try switching?

You need to swap the black and brown wire.
