Default Help.

Have 1994 1.8 1999 head stock ignition (for now).
Megasquirt 3.57 board MS3 daughterboard. Harness wired as per Braineack 1994 standalone pinout diagram via premade harness from DIYAutotune.
Jumpers on mainboard as per megamanual instructions for VRinput with pullup. I still don't comprehend what the hell a pullup is. Two Bosch ignitors installed on board per instructions found on DIY website. Settings in tunerstudio are 4g63 wheel, spark inverted, and a couple other things I am not sure of because I do not have it in front of me.

Been f#$% with this thing for a while. No Spark at plugs when in test mode or cranking and no tach in Tunerstudio. All the **** lights up as I think it should with the Stim, and the car will run with stock ECU.

Have eat, slept and dreamed about this damn thing and tried to readf everything I can. The **** is just not sinking in yet, and I need my car running. It seems to me there is too much information and my old brain cannot determine how to decipher it.

I am sure I left something out, but hopefully this will get some suggestions flowing for me to try.

I think it was from an installation writeup but not sure.
I will check when I get home.

I never used the VRInput with a 3.57 board, I used the standard opto circuit configuration. I'd have to look through diagrams and exlpain how to run the jumpers, I dont think I've documented.

I will review the MS3 documentation and configure for opto if that's what it is.
I do have the MS3X board available, and will be doing sequential in the future. But for now I am determined to get the Damn thing working without it and go from there, Up at 2 am this morning trying to figure it out.
It just bugs me that I have not gotten there yet.

well it's pretty simple if you have the MS3x. bring in the cam signal to "cam in" on the ms3x, then you just gotta run the crnak signal through the opto on the mainbaord.

give me a sec ill map it out.

JP1 pin 2 to XG1.

J1 jump 1 & 2 (OptoOut to Tsel).

that's it. then bring the cam signal into MS3x's pin 32.

Thanks again Brain, I will let you know how it works out. I will not be able to do anything until the weekend.

This is how we recommend setting up MS3 for the CKP input:

V3.57 board - Use VR Input + pullup
a) Find JP1 in the bottom right of the board. Place a jumper across positions 1 and 2
b) Find J1 in the middle of the board. Place a jumper across positions 3 and 4
c) Install a 1k resistor (any value 470R - 2k2 is likely ok) onto the pads marked R57
d) With a small screwdriver, turn the pots, R52 and R56, about 6 turns to the fully anticlockwise position (you may feel a "click") and then turn R56 back about 2 turns clockwise.

MS3X card - CMP Input
a) Install jumper across JP7 (I believe the expander card ships with the jumper already installed)
b) The cam input adjustment potentiometers should be set as follows. Turn both pots (R11 and R32) full anti-clockwise - approx five turns. Then turn the top one (R11) two turns clockwise.

The opto input is only recommended for fuel only applications triggered off coil -.
I have been setting up MS2 and MS3 like this for a while.

Why did you do that? I don't think you saw that on our site. Your coils have ignitors built in and need a TTL (5v logic level) signal to fire. The expander already has the correct outputs on board. All you do is wire it up to the coils and turn it on in software...

Ben, the whole Megasqurt thing started out with another car and a MS1 I built myself.
Never installed the MS1 and sold the car to my son. In the mean time I aquired the MS2 from my son and upgraded to MS3,MS3X. I have gone down the wrong path due to my own stupidity and poor reading comprehension. I will take the detour, get back on the correct path and follow in the footsteps of all the great Megasquirt Gods.....LOL
AKA -I am a dumb ****
Thanks for the help, I will report back when completed.

One thing to add, there was nothing on DIY's website telling me I needed to add the ignitors, just directions how to do it.
Again, my bad.

I sent Ben a PM with a couple more questions (stupid), then I realized I should have posted it here for all to see and benefit from the info. So here is where it stands as of now.

Ok, I now have spark in test mode, making progress!
I am using the spark outputs from ms3x and input the cam signal also to ms3x. I do not have spark or tach while cranking. And I need to know if my ignition settings in Tuner Studio are correct, I am set to Inverted and Rising Edge. Not sure if I need to do any mods for the tach signal output.
Need to get this **** working so I can get some sleep.

Now I have spark while cranking and synced. I double checked all of my stuff and screwed with the pots one more time. I assume the pots were not set correctly.
To be continued....

Just wasted a set of coils, fortunately have another set. Not sure exactly what I did to cause it but any input from past experiences would be helpful. I think I screwed with the rising/falling setting and maybe the inverted setting. Not sure if that could have done it.
Also the other day before it was set up based on info here, the coils got red hot, but worked after that. Maybe that had a part in their exit?

Ok, starts and idles high and slightly rough. AFR's are bouncing all over, but seem to hover around 10.5. Used basemap from DIYPNP 94-95. Changed required fuel for my 440cc injectors. Confused about the dead time and other settings for injectors in Tunerstudio. Also as soon as the fans kick on, (2) wired in parallel the car stalls.
Still pretty cool after all of this time that it starts, but many issues to work out.
Any input would be appreciated.

Yes, I know there are many adjustments to be made, but currently I do not have the knowledge to just start screwing with tables. I am trying to make sure that everything on the hardware side is functioning as it should. It seems that my sideband is jumping all over the place, which I assume is a wiring issue. It does settle at 10. 5 or so before it becomes erratic.

What I know so far:
Injectors firing in test mode
Coils firing in test mode
Not losing sync when idling.
Car starts and idles but dies when the cooling fans come on.
Running rich as hell
Ait and coolant temps seem in line

What I do not know is how to setup the Idle valve
And the misc settings for the injectors other than req. Fuel

What I do nor know
