Okay, I swapped in another coil pack I had lying around and that gave me a working tach (with the 1K resistor). See attached picture of the signal my x10 probe showed on my oscilloscope. Posted for thread continuity.

UNFORTUNATELY... This coil pack case-arcs all over the freaking place. I was told it was good when pulled... Can't catch a break.
