Alright folks, I am new around here and dont actuall have the car yet but I will be ordering the MS in a couple of days. In about 4-5 months I will be buying an NA. I am hopeing for a 95-6 but may end up with a 1.6 really depends on what I come across when I go shopping. Near as I can tell the sellers on this side of the pond are aware of the 1.8 advantage and the premuim they draw is about the same as the bigger rear end swap costs, but I digress...

In a couple of days I am going to be ordering the MS stuff to keep me busy for a few weeks building it. I am pretty much going to order all the parts Brainiac lists in his how to thread and the conector to make it a straight plug in to the factory harness. I will be going stand alone while the car is still N/A so that it is settled and running before I bolt on the turbo.

I will be going turbo pretty soon after I get the car (thats the plan at least) and I will either go BEGI s or DIY with a begi mani. in either case what else will I need? (I will get the stim)

I know I will need a wideband 02 sensor and I am going to also order a JAW from JAW as it looks to be a good price and I am a Dealer VW tech so I have all the other needed parts already (plug and sensor).

So the real question is, aside from brainiacs list is there anything else I should plan for? Is there a reason, aside from cost, that everyone here uses the MS1 and not MSII? is it any better for our/my aplication, or do you just end up paying for extras that are not needed?

The 1.8 has the rear end, bigger brakes and a stiffer body. The 1.6 is cheaper to turbo to 6psi, but not by much by the time you to get to 14psi its almost the same price as the 1.8. This is mainly because of the rear end.
The MS1 is proven to work and a lot of documentation can be found on the forums. The MS2 is getting more popular and more and more info is being available over time.
Although i like the JAW, but when you get to have to pay for the shipping from 2 places for both the sensor the and board that will equal very close to the $200 shipped LC1 kit.

If you stick to your guns and get a 1.8 though, you'll have the stronger rear, 0.2 liters displacement advantage, the option to do the 99 head swap, a newer car... just get a 1.8.

Well yes if I was buying it all new that would sway me but the sensor they use for it is a VW sensor. I have 6 of them piled up at work that may be good and if not I can get it at dealer price from work.

Yeah I will probably sit and wait once money is in hand and find a 1.8, its just the 1.6 are always a fair bit cheaper and soooooooooooooo tempting.

At any rate I geuss my real question here is should I go for the MSII now or is there no real reason to spend the extra money. As far as I can tell, it is a rather easy upgrade at a later date should I change my mind, right? so perhaps I will just do as Brainiac says
