Default Converting from MSI to MSII

Apologies if this has been covered, nothing popped up in search that I saw.

I'm currently running a plain ole MSI built pretty much the way Braineak outlined. With the release of MSII Extra I'm looking to upgrade (have some ideas that'd require MSII - and I like to tinker). Looking at the docs online, the mods look extremely similar (if not the exact same, I honestly didn't cross reference).

So I was curious, has anyone upgraded their Miata Modded MSI before? Or is this pretty untrodden still at this point? If someone has I'd be really curious what the differences are in the required mods.

I've had a 5 minute look at the differences between MS1-Extra and MS2-Extra, and there looks to be a few hardware changes to make:
  • The MS2 daughter board needs 12V to JS9 (usually taken from LHS of D9).
  • The "cam" 2nd trigger input has moved from pin 11 to pin 17.
  • The "crank" 2nd trigger input looks totally different, although maybe this could be done without the Opto Isolator? I'm not good enough at electronics to figure this one out.
  • Spark outlooks look the same.

Cheers

Holy crap! thank you! This a fantastic overview.

(I wasn't expecting anyone to do new research, thanks a ton!)

You might want to double check those things, I was pretty tired yesterday.

I'm interested to do this one day so let me know your findings!

Cheers

Haha, certainly on both accounts! Just having a starting area is really helping me wrap my head around it - but I'll be sure to double check. Also I'll document things as I go and share back considering how helpful this board has been for me (even just lurking).
