Default Megasquirt Parts List for '99?

First I would like to say hi to everyone in this MS forum. I've had my '99 for a while now and decided to remove the FM Link Piggy and go with a Megasquirt. I got a good deal on one already assembled by DIYAutotune. It was originally going to be used for a '04 and came with some other items.

Megasquirt-I with V3.0 PCB
DSM/Miata ignition mods
PWM idle air control mod
Stimulator diagnostic tool
12' wiring harness
IATwPiggy IAT sensor
38NPTBung-S Bung for IAT sensor
TuneCable
USB-2920

I also have

AEM Wideband and Defi EGT sensors.
550cc Injectors

Does it matter that it was built for a '04 NB Miata and I want to use it on my '99? Anything in the list I don't need?

What else would make my life easier with the use and install of the MS? I know that I need a '94-'97 CAS and I'm currently looking for one. What about wiring the MS into the OEM ECU?

My goals is to run it in parallel so that the ECU can run the things that I don't need to control. I Know several people on here are all ready doing so, I just don't know what ones are running the MS that I have on a '99-'00.

Sorry about the long post... if you have anything that may help me in my quest, please feel free to chime in

Perhaps not. AbeFM (on this board) is in the final stages of getting an MS to run standalone on a '00 using the factory cam and crank sensors. He's using an MS-II, not sure if his technique is exclusive to that build.

I'm sure Abe will chime in shortly- listen to him.

Abe and I talked a little though IM. He is a very knowledgeable person. I was going to go his route until I found the great deal on the MS-I. I'm sure he can also be of some help when I get her up and running... or maybe if I can't get it running He did mention that others were doing what I want to do with the MS-I.

Yeah - with a early model CAS, there's really no big deal to running it. You could take control of things like fans and VICS, but again you don't need to with the stock ecu in there. Personally, I like having control of the fans. VICS is a pretty dumb system and I think very few people are at a level in their tuning where they will gain much from messing with it.

The wiring harness you won't need if you're running in parallel. Look around, I've got a (messy) pin out of what the 99-00 OEM connectors are - of course, most of the lines you'll want to let the OEM unit see, where as I cut most of them, and in the end took them all.

If you can get the JimStim instead of the regular stim that might be nice, and there's an awesome breakout board I wish I had now. But really, you're in the same boat as most people on this board - running an MS-I in parallel, there's not a lot to invent - the only issue is making sure the OEM ECU is happy running your altenator. You need to see more than just the AIT as some say, but what more, I don't know.

It'll be simple. I already wrote up a color coded pinout in the DIY MS FAQ for the required outputs that you'll connect to MS at the stock harness. A patch harness, similar to a boomslang makes life much easy though is not fully necessary. If you don't like cutting up stock harnesses, which i don't, then it's worth it's weight in gold. I had to repair my own harness from a previous owner and that wasn't much fun. The wires used in the stock harness have very few strands and aren't very friendly when it comes to being crimped and bent around without insulation so the less i have to chop it up the happier i am.

The 94-97 CAS will make the install really easy. Abe covered pretty much everything already. I already posted the pinout.
I don't know what a IATwithPiggyIAT sensor is though. You should just have a GM IAT sensor to put in your intercooler pipe. I also posted a thread on how to sync the AEM wideband with the megasquirt to make it read exactly the same as the wideband gauge.

Abe and CJ, Thanks for the added help. I just bought the wiring extension from Boomslang. I remember playing with the wiring on my '92 to hook up my EMU, never again.

CJ I've been looking around and 120 is the cheapest for a CAS that I found. Do you know anywhere cheaper?

If i remember correctly when i called mazmart and planetmiata last year and they quoted me $100 for a CAS. Maybe prices went up.

I could have saved you a good amount of money on the boomslang if you were able to wait though. I make them myself. When you get the boomslang tug on the wires going into the mail connectors. They've been known to not have been locked in there real well. A loose connection will mess up your day. Run the boomslang inline with the stock ECU harness to make sure it's working right.
