I had a problem with the registry being invalid so i deleted it and remade it so then i got to where i Do this and closed anything that could talk with the megasquirt. This is the result. i selected the correct COM port and i even tried upgrading from the standard megasquirt code and still same response

If you are upgrading from standard Megasquirt code you will need to
use the boot jumper soon. If you are upgrading from Megasquirtnspark,
DualTable, MegasquirtnEDIS or an earlier MSnS-extra this program
will do it for you.
.
If you are unsure then press Y to quit - press Q
.
.
.
. Please read the README file!!!
.
Are you upgrading from standard Megasquirt code [Y,N,Q]?N
.
This should count up to 1700+ lines
.
src\download.exe -c2 msns-extra.s19
MS Download 1.10

Expected response "

but received this "".
Press any key to continue . . .

You may need to try putting the boot jumper in place. Tell it you're upgrading from standard code, and when it says to put the boot jumper in place, you'll take off the top case and stick a paper clip into the two holes marked "Boot" next to the processor.

So i download the firmware with the boot jumper in place. i turned off the megasquirt put the cover back on and tried to connect... still no response... made sure that both COM ports were the same on Megatune as well as my computer. Its weird because if i can reboot the firmware why cant i connect to the megasquirt via megatune. any other ideas?? its like the wire is working but its not working all the way. Should i go buy a new serial-usb adapter as well as the usb extension? Is there any way to test the megasquirt? And is there a warranty on the board ( i have not soldered or modified anything on the unit ) please let me know what the next step is Thanks again for the help

So i just got back the megasquirt and DIY auto tune had no problems connecting to it. I bought all new wires that go from the board to my computer from DIY autotune. I even reformatted my hard drive to see if it was something virus caused. And still i cannot get that stupid Success to show up. I dont know what could of changed and im just so fed up with not being able to start my damn car. Does god hate me?

I was setting up my ms for the first time today and had the same problem. Dunno if your doing something as dumb as i was or not. I was turning the ignition to accessory and it wouldn't connect. Once i figured out it got no power that way and switched it to "on" i could connect. Dunno if you were running the car or not. I couldn't since i built my ms and i had no .msq on it yet so i had to do it this way.

I have the same problem with Vista (another Vista hater) and I use that Radioshack 64bit USB/Serial adapater, it connects to the PNP fine but won't download firmware. I have to use my XP based laptop for that.

so i sourced another laptop ( my moms ) to use and still the same problems. No connection. Did the port check, did everything humanly possible to get it working. So now i ruled out the computers. If DIY autotune connected to the megasquirt and i didnt on both windows XP and Vista business WTF is missing??? Can something with the wiring harness inhibit connection? Even so all i did was splice in the middle connector for KnocksenseMS and AEM wideband. I unplugged the plug to see if that would allow it to connect. No beans... Im at the end of my rope. Im considering going another route if this does not work out.

Not yet. They're trying to help me out with my problem through emailing.. but it's a very slow process. I'm trying something new every night, and it seems like I'm getting a little closer every time. But I think something is wrong with the MSPNP.

Doh.. that's what I get for buying used

let me guess, you did the port check and nothing. You tried to reload the firmware but you couldnt connect to do it. Its gotta be the wire that connects the MS and my computer. Mine does flash though

I had the same problem with usb to serial cabel adapter under Vista. No connection to MS made. I've tried everything. Yesterday I've bought one of these express cards (the cheapest I could find ~20$):

it was recognized by vista as "usb to com" (although its express card) with prolific chip (the same as in usb-com cabel) however the connection to MS was made at first atempt. So trash those cabels and buy one of those cards (for notebooks with express card slot of course). No problems since then

4 valid ports found

The COM that the device manager shows the serial-usb is COM5. let me know if theres something else i can do
Okay.....I had this same issue when getting mine to communicate as well. Basically, the MS unit can't work with any ports that are higher than let's say a COM10. You have four ports that are working there under that value. Go into your Device Manager and manually change the Port Setting of your device under Advanced Settings (this is assuming you have all the correct drivers loaded for your cable.....i.e. it should show like a Radioshack or whatever brand cable when you open up Device Manager and check under COM ports). Change the Port Setting to match one of your open ports that are under COM10....use COM3 for example in your case.

After that, go into Megatune (Make sure the unit is powered on....turn your KEY to the ON position not ACC) > Go to the Communications Drop Down Menu > Then match the COM Port with the one you selected under device manager....in this case COM3. Test the connection....if success. Go back to the home screen of Megatune > Then go to File > and click to go back ONLINE.

Start your engine, check, and this should solve the issue with the connection. Vista was the only OS that gave me this issue as well....you HAVE to change the port setting under advanced settings manually or it wouldn't work.

Have fun and let us know if this worked.

"NO RESPONSE"

So i update the drivers and stil the same except that when i open megatune it does not say would u like to stay offline. it just loads right up but im not connected to the ECU.

Yes the megasquirt is on and all connections are plugged in although when its illuminated it kind of strobes and such

Also i can not fetch any info from the unit itself

anyone got any ideas for me to try
I have tried every single com port from 1-30

none will work. of course i matched them
