Default MS2 first start

Hi Lads,

Just installed my MS2 with sequential ignition mod to my 93, 1.6 mk1. running 265cc injectors, MTX-L, AFM delete and vtps (calibrated) and a Brain map for Greg G I got here.https://www.miataturbo.net/showthrea...+tuning&page=3 post no. 56.

After forgetting to remove the st sig fuse I jumpered the FP to Gnd to run the fuel pump and see if it runs.
So, it started and idled ok untill the MTX-L htr went off and got a reading, it was about 15 AFR for a few secs then revs dropped and AFR went to 19 before it just about died and looked like to ECU sent loads of fuel to keep it running. cycles like this every 5-6 secs.

I didn't get to set the timing as it would not hold a steady idle and the AFR looked a bit too lean.

Do I start autotuning? or what do do I do next

Thanks

Did you use the Req_ Fuel wizard?

How are all you bastards getting 4 data fields on each graph? Also, why is EGO correction on and why is it so cold?

Lol, not everyone lives in TX where it can be 80 degrees one day and 40 the same night.

PS to OP, that's a hint to turn your EGO off.

Its cold cos its Ireland, is the EGO the wideband O2 sensor. I thought that would always be on. I didn't do anything with the data fields, that the way they came.

http://www.extraefi.co.uk/MSLVV_tuning.htm

Start reading. EGO answer is 3/4 way down.

EGO correction is the amount of adjustment made to your VE table to hit the target in your AFR table. Turning on EGO correction should be literally the last thing you do before you burn and go inside for an ale.

Great, I'll try that. If this turns off my WB O2 how does the Megasquirt control my idle?

So my next step is to check the timing with a light and use the trigger wizard. Burn to ECU. Then turn on the EGO and I'm ready to start tuning?

Big thanks for the help here lads. much appreciated.

you do not want any type of correction on when you tune in the fuel map.
Get enough fuel at it to idle with the ve table, Get your timing set wtih a timing gun.
Timing must match between the crank pulley and what tunerstudio shows
Once you do that, let it warmup to operating temp. Do not tune until its warmed up. Best to make sure everything is off and not messing with fuel.

GAMMAE should be at 100

If it is not at 100 check what maybe changing it, check GAIR, GEGO, etc
Once you have warmed up the engine to operating temp and nothing is adding or pulling fuel you can go around and start tuning.

Yipeee, the EGO setting worked. I then used the trigger wizard to adjust the timing until I seen 10 Degrees on the timing light. (see pic attached) Burned to ECU and adjusted the idle down to 950 rpm. Its idling good, a bit rich at 11.6 ish. When it was warmed up I turned back on the EGO. This caused a drop in revs but it settled in a second or two.

I'm not going to tune it yet as I am putting in a supercharger MP45 and intercooler. I hope it starts and idles as easy when that done.

Thanks for the help lads, could never of figured that out on my own.

Learn to tune now, on stock power, so you won't do any damage. You have to try to blow up these cars when naturally aspirated. If you don't know what "EGO correction" means, I'm going to assume you'll experience some trial and error, that needs to occur naturally aspirated.

thanks for the advice hustler. I have a boosted map for my setup. will i get a safe result if I load the boosted map and used autotune? If not I will probably bring it to a rengine tuner as there is so much stuff I don't know.

why did you turn on EGO and not tune the fuel map around where it was idling after it warmed up?

Ehh, fear of *ucking it up. I thought I would quit while is was ahead. I also don't know how to tune the fuel map. I hope its as simple as changing some numbers on the VE map and checking the AFR to get it nearer to 14.7 but I need to do more homework here. Thanks for the tip for the next stage. Tuning is quite enjoyable when its all going well !

Open VE fuel table, watch the area its in, at idle between 800-1000 probably around 30kpa.
So if you are rich you play with the numbers in the surroding area. Say their 40s in the area, and its running around 11afrs, bring it down to 37 and see how drastic the afrs change.

If its to rich in that area, take out fuel by lowering the values in the cells
To lean, add fuel by adding to the values in the cells around the area its lean

Also DATALOG anytime you mess around.
