Default MS2 or MS3 (MS builders feel free to chime in)

Couple years ago I got an MS1 and basically stopped reading up on MS in general. I know theres MS2 and MS3, but I don't know any of the reasons to choose one over the other, only know that the tables are bigger and they do seq inj now. My car is run extremely basic, no EBC, no vTPS, no trigger wheel etc etc. Bare necessities. Honestly, I'd like to keep it as basic as possible too, but I just built a forged internals longblock and I think its time for an MS upgrade. I read over the super important megasquirt threads and they seem a bit outdated or relevant only to MS1. I searched for a general ms2/ms3 install type thread and didn't find anything super helpful.

A couple questions:
-Does ms2/ms3 require a trigger wheel setup
-is enhanced and "x" the same thing
-Is there any particular reason to choose one over the other? It seems that ms2 does certain things better like a/c control, but I don't have a/c and never will.

Or if there is a really helpful thread I missed in my search, that would be cool too.

Both the ms2e and ms3x would work wonderfully on your car. Much much better than the ms1. As for which one of them you prefer, well that's up to you. Pick your poison. Neither will disappoint

PS: look up Reverants threads on this subject. He even put together a very cool spreadsheet of the different features

I would never buy from Blue-State Braineack. You can never trust a god damned liberal state resident.

Lol @ Trey.

Honestly, I would go for a Basic MS2. If you don't have A/C, TPS, EBC and all the jizz (and don't plan to), there's no reason to go for an Enhanced MS2 or a Basic MS3.

I'm looking forward to managing him with discipline and authority at our chump car race as assistant crew chief coffee maker.

Are MS3 VVT tables still tiny? Is that the right thread for this?

They're 6x6 but why would you want it any bigger?

with a guide like this out there:
http://westfieldmx5.devocht.com/megasquirt/90-97-ms3/

how could you NOT build your own ms3x yourself and save $$$$ ?

If you read the forums and see how many "won't start, won't idle, cuts out" etc threads are out there, its no wonder really.

I have read forums, which is why I've been able to get the ms3x's I've built to work perfectly, thanks to threads that brain, you, and Frank, etc. Have contributed to. The people messing up their builds or installs are people who don't follow directions. I'm a musician by profession for crying out loud, and even I can build these things

Obviously the time and interest issue is a whole other thing, but if you follow the guides, it's actually kind of hard to mess things up with all the info available

One time someone sent my a MS to finish for him because he attempted and just didnt want to finish it; the entire db37 connector was soldered to the mainboard in one big blob.

Yes, that writeup I helped frank with makes it easy*, but theres still a learning curve to get over. When you actually go price out parts and supplies, and then get a quote from Rev or Frank or myself for a unit, it's not that much additional cost; especially when you factor in Rev's Enhanced stuffs.
